Re: Finally my much needed upgrade!

Have fun. If you're like me I have to take breaks when wiring it up. I tend to run out of patience when trying to hide the wires.

Re: New build issues!

What does Samsung Drive Magician and/or CrystalDiskInfo say about the health of the SSD? Few other things to try... 1) Try a different SATA cable. I ran into this issue a few months back with one of my machines. The SSD kept corrupting itself and couldn't figure out why. Out of desperation I finally...

Re: New build issues!

Check for a BIOS update. If up to date play with the power settings in the BIOS to see if you can fix the sleep issue.

Re: Finally my much needed upgrade!

What are you going to use to cool the processor? Keep in mind that Haswell is the hottest running of the 3 i series processors (Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, Haswell). With that said though I think you might be low balling yourself with 4GHz. My 2600K will do 4.5GHz with stock voltages.

Re: Finally my much needed upgrade!

You don't need a 200MM fan unless you have a 200MM fan exhausting too. Or do you prefer a positive pressure setup ( positive vs negative airflow )? Are you planning on reusing your Zalman HSF with the new CPU? Send a couple of links where you shop at in the UK and I'll poke around and see what I fin...

Re: Permissions!

Ditch the disc. Not only does Windows install faster but you can do this whole process quickly. 1) Download LC ISO Creator. http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Tools/CD-DVD-Rip-Other-Tools/LC-ISO-Creator.shtml 2) Create an ISO file of your Windows installation disc. 3) Download Windows 7 USB/DVD dow...

What is going on DJ? Seems like you've been battling Windows file errors for a few weeks now. Is this a new error even after the fresh install?

Re: ddr3 memory - intel vs md

XMP just means eXtreme Memory Profile. Basically it can be "tweaked" by nothing more than a BIOS change. XMP will work with Intel and AMD. If you want very specific AMD memory they sell some but as I recall it's a tad overpriced. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&am...

I don't get it. Who would buy this? All I could see is a company for their conference room but then again I don't see the need for a built-in projector.

Re: .net framework 3.5 problem!

Said it before with your other issue, you need to reinstall Windows. Maybe power users see it more often but after two years my computers get OS rot bad enough that I can't take it any longer. Other options to try first: 1) Download CCleaner run it, then run it's registry cleaner. 2) Download Glarys...

Re: Taking Ownership of files and folder problem!

AppData has been around for a while and allows programs to store pertinent information there (i.e. game saves, user configurations, user info, etc...). It's been my experience that when Windows starts getting wonky with files and folders it's a good time to do a fresh install. I'm sure that's not wh...

Re: New Build

Yeah I noticed after I posted that the Corsair kit you picked was 16GB and not 8GB. I think you'll be happy with the purchase. I do like that case too, Fractal Designs makes some good stuff. *EDIT* Samsung just released a new version of their SSD software (Samsung SSD Magician) and the 840 Pro now s...

Here's why I picked the highend video card. They give you the best possible chance to still being able to play a game 5 years down the road, per your initial request. Skip the Creative sound card. The HERO has SupremeFX which is a Creative chipset that can drive 8 audio channels. I was thinking abou...

Re: New Build

I didn't pick a case, keyboard, mouse, or monitor since those are all usually personal preference. I know that you aren't in America but this way I can send you a list of parts. I also picked parts that I thought you could readily purchase too. Sometimes I wanted to pick a certain part but I didn't ...
