Re: Blue is better than Black!(56K Beware)
Recently moved back into town from the boonies (closest neighbor was ~200 yrds in any direction). I went from 10Mbps DSL (7 on a good day and kids asleep) to 200Mbps cable.... *insert holy music and gates opening* Yeah. Hate having close neighbors again, but love the speed. Looks like Gig fiber is a...

Looking to build a new main rig in the spring, leaning Ryzen 5xxx (pending reviews), also hoping that will push some of the old gen stuff lower in price... want to update my VM server, could use a few more cores, but cant throw down on a Threadripper setup lol

ROFLMAO - That is awesome. Wonder what plate they screwed into the bottom as that totally ruined it for real world use!! Maybe it was a bad one or scratched up or something. You'd be surprised what prop guys will destroy to get a prop. When people figured out that Luke's saber was made from the fla...

Re: Any thoughts on CineRAID SYSTEMS CR-H408
if you have enough spare parts or system, see if you have a board with enough SATA ports and setup FreeNAS. Its based on FreeBSD, and uses ZFS to make drive pools with parity. No RAID card needed, it can be picky about HBA controllers if you wanted to pick up a controller card to run more drives tha...

Re: CoolerMaster V8 GTS
being legacy doubt Cooler Master will have anything laying around.
Its a odd fan being round, LED, and Low profile (20mm).
I had an OG V8 cooler until about a month ago (moving purge, didn't even realize I had the thing lol), but the fans for that are not the same as the GTS.

Re: Cable Management?
HAHAHAHAHAHA upgrades you say??? Well our budget can't afford that..... Yeah, head of sales is somehow getting building updated (its 25 years old). Part of the face lift is redoing cube world, if he gets what he wants then would be easier to rewire the building than make the existing drops work. Fi...

Re: Gone Viral?
I should get the $1200, what I don't qualify for is the forced 2 weeks full pay by employer for not being able to work or the modified FMLA that kicks in after that 2 weeks.
If I choose not to work I have to use PTO.

Me too. Have my "papers" so I can get to work. Since my work is considered "essential" we don't qualify for that reimbursement from the government. We build and support heavy equipment for local, state, and federal divisions like State D.O.T.'s and Army Corps of Engineers. So we ...

Fully expecting my son's high school graduation to be canceled. Its scheduled for May 10. Most schools around us have switched to e-learning until April 24th, for now mine are scheduled back on the 6th, betting it gets extended like the others.

I actively HATE RGB and full temper glass cases... that being said. I would throw the Fractal Design R6 USB-C in the ring as an option. Has 1 external 5.25 bay, and more importantly, a clean no glass option. https://www.newegg.com/black-fractal-design-define-r6-atx-mid-tower/p/N82E16811352091?review...

If you have some old lower power sucking system, could build yourself a PFSense box.

Re: switch vs router help
Going straight off the modem or the router, the switch would just extend the ports. Without the router in place, everything it basically talking straight to the modem. The upside to having the router in place is the better flexibility of controlling flow and watching devices on your network. If your...

Re: Who got a 3990X?
I just built a new VM server with a 2700 for home lab. This new gen has made the price drop nice. Wish I had the coin to go the threadripper route. The 2700 build hurt enough... frig'n RAM cost.. but, sips power compared to retired enterprise stuff... **** ton quieter too lol.
