What to upgrade first?

I am looking to upgrade my rig. It currently uses an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz, 8GB DDR2 800MHz RAM, and an ATi Radeon HD 4870 1GB. I have been feeling it has not been performing well in some games I play such as Battlefield Bad Company 2. I mainly game at 1680x1050, but can use my tv which is 1080p and will eventually move to a 1080p or better monitor one day. I don't know what to upgrade first. Should I do the video card first, I was thinking of upgrading to a HD 6970. Or should I upgrade to a Core i7 950 with a 6GB DDR3 1333MHz kit first? I will eventually do both but which one will benefit me more.

if you want to start playing in higher resolution i'd go with the 6970

Tough call... After you see what the new Intel P67 motherboards and Sandy Bridge processors can do you might want to do a platform upgrade.
