Please help with DNS issue

Post by tekgek »

Okay, so I registered with dyndns.com, and have created a subdomain. I would like to link the domain to my fileserver, with is on a router on my network. however, as of now, the domain name links to the router. How can i make the domain name point to my server? Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Tekgek

i havent looked at dyndns in awhile, but dont they reccomend a client to run on the server to do the updating? the client would look the eth0 every so often and update with the IP.

You need to forward port 80 to the file server, assuming by file server, you mean a regular HTTP server such as Apache or similar. Most HTTP servers use port 80 by default. If you have an FTP server, default is 21, I think. Either way, you might be able to find a guide on how to do that on your router on http://portforward.com/

Oh yeah, standard disclaimer, I'm not responsible and cannot be held liable if anything bad happens to your computer(s).

Thanks. I got it all up and running now. I was not sure how to forward ports. Learn something new everyday, right?

Again, Thanks a bunch,
