A Killer Gaming PC...

Post by NAiLs »

Some guy at school just built a $6,000 system.... He's actually waiting on the CPU and video cards yet but the rest came today.

MB... I haven't a clue what motherboard it is, but he mentioned it is one of the only SLI boards that supports dual 16x? Sound right?
CPU... an x2 4800+ 939 chipset
RAM... 2GB of RAM... he wanted 4GB, but I guess the RAM is made specifically for that board? Maybe he'll buy another 2GB later?
Video... 2x XFX GeForce 7800 GTX's w/ 512MB RAM
HDD... 4x 10,000RPM Raptors.. (Unsure on size... assuming the 74GB model?)
Case.. I think he said a coolance case
Other... 1GB Video RAM..?
I'm sure he has some killer optical drives and sound, just didn't hear what he got.

Overkill? I think so. Extremely tight system? Indeed! :supz:

I surely wouldn't spend $6,000 on a computer... I'd spend $2,000 tops probably.

Could the motherboard be this one?

I'm with you on that one, lol. Most I'd spend is $2000.
Though it would probably be more like $1000-$1500

Could be.

I can't believe there is already a solution solving the 8x limitations though... it's just amazing how fast technology comes along. Sure it was probably a simple solution, but damn!

The only board that supports the dual SLI x16 is the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe...... and it looks to be a sweet board....trouble is trying to find one without paying twice what its worth is damn near impossible.
The memory is probably the Corsair 3500LLPRO that I've been playing with for the past week.....almost as nice as the Crucial Ballistix PC4000 we reviewed a few weeks ago.

He didn't have a clue what he was going to use it for. He doesn't play games often. We (my class) asked him what he was going to use it for and asked if he was going to play games. He said, "I guess I could get into that.."

Yea, dunno.

I don't know. Last I talked to him he was waiting on the video cards yet. He was looking at the 512MB XFX 7800 GTX's which are/were on backorder. I won't be able to update this until January 15th the earliest as that's when school goes back. He said he was going to bring it in sometime and let us play around on it. So, when school gets back into session I'll toss an update up here, hopefully with pics! :)

I swear, this kid is made of some serious cash or something...
