Just what we need, another "tablet" that makes no sense except to use it as an e-reader.

Tablets under 10" are not tablets, they are e-readers or jokes, whichever you prefer. Has nobody learned from the Kindle Fire? Sold great, now pretty much tanking. Same will happen to the Nexus 7, I predict. Apple's will give the sheep something to baaaaa about for a while but once the hard core "we spend more than we should cause apple is my god" people buy them, sales will also tank - another prediction. 8)

now if the 7" tablet would fold in half with a nice OLED screen to be used as a regular cell phone, that might catch my attention.

All good points there, KR.

I've never been able to see the benefit of a keyboardless laptop, except for very niche and specialised applications. Companies have been trying to create and sell these things for the last 20 years+ and have got knowhere. Suddenly, Apple pulls the iPad out of its ass and everyone wants one.

Tablets have their place in the world. Too bad it's usually in the hands of someone under 12. My 4 year old nephew can't keep his hands off of phones and tablets even with his Nintendo DS in his pocket.

Got my 13yro a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" tablet. She loves it. Uses it for a lot of stuff, but she is not into gaming. Mainly books, videos, music, email... all the same stuff she did on a big desktop. My boy on the other hand, wont give up the desktop, he's too into games.

My mom has seen what my daughter does with her tablet, eBooks and all, and wants one because it would allow her to curl up in the living room near the wood stove in the winter. Dad wants one for videos and looking stuff up on the net. He wants me to convert all his gunsmith DVDs and put them on a NAS. That way he can watch them in his shop without having a big ol desktop taking up bench space or needing to go back in the house to the office to look up a schematic.

They are just now getting to where you can get a decent one for a reasonable price.

Specifically the Nexus 7. Pretty good hardware for the price. Only complaint is there is no Micro SDHC slot.
