Single wire WLAN module?

Post by unfaithfulsfan »

Just picked up an HP 2000-2b80DX minus the LCD for a song on eBay. When tearing it down I noticed that the WLAN module has only the black wire. There's what looks like a ground strap underneath the card on what would ordinarily be the #2/white connector. Anyway, I thought the white wire might not have been pulled through when the seller put the machine back together but when I got the cover off I saw that only the black wire was present at the antenna itself. I know my G62-341NR had two connections. In my junk pile I have most of a display assembly from a DV7 and it, too, only has one lead & it is also the black lead.

Is there only one wire wireless or do I need to start looking for a new module?

Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving!!

Just plug it into the main antenna hookup and you should be good to go.

So many little things they cut corners on to save money, including aux antennas ;)

If you have an old one you could put the aux on if it is just snap on or if you can solder. I believe all the cards have the spot for the aux just that wire cost way too much money for some manufacturers to use

Thanks!

Just goes to show you learn something new every day. Honestly I'd never given any thought to the antenna(s) or that there might be more than one. Probably because I've never had an issue with connectivity related to the signal itself. Just what happens with it when the receiving computer refuses to do anything with it.

Happy Turkey Day!

My Dell has 3 hookups on it! It's just crazy.

Yikes! It's a wonder they don't interfere with each other.

It might be one of the Dell WiFi modules that is compatible with the wireless docking stations. I know we just got one of them in at work, and it has three antenna connections as well. One on one side, then a little break/separator, then the other two connections.
