Autocad doesn't open on the new OS

Post by HynekHavlicek »

Why does autocad 2006 hesitate on win7 when opening files or inserting blocks? I am a 1 man show, so I don't have any networking issues. All my files are saved on my local hardrive. I never had this problem on my old xp machine.

Problem #1 - WAY too old of a version. - https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad- ... -p/2580532 - run in compatibility mode on windows 7 but the better option would be to upgrade your version.

How much RAM do you have? CPU? dedicated video or built in?

Autocad has always been a resource hog due to the nature of the product and what it does so you need a good system to perform anything with speed.

Yup, 2006 in Win7 is sketchy.

2009 is the lowest you can run for Win7 and be stable (I think)

We currently run 2013, no issues on Win7. I have tried 2013 on Win10 and it gets flaky, and Autodesk is not patching it to run on Win10 either. What sucks is that now Autodesk doesn't do standalone perpetual licenses any more, so subscription only.

If you have a beefy enough system, run the Virtual XP in Win7. Get your stability back for the 2006 version.

I would check with your video card manufacturer and see if there is a driver update for your video card. Possible it didn't get updated when you installed the new operating system.
As for file scanning, I think Autodesk products read every file that is needed when it opens a file. If the file has a bad path, is corrupted or doesn't exist the system will spend alot of time searching for it.
If it's so, then you can try to repair files via Recovery Toolbox DWG and see if you can open them. They have a demo version. So you'll be able to check can this program help you or not. http://www.oemailrecovery.com/dwg_recovery.html

Have a look at this information from Microsoft:

WARNING: Do not use the troubleshooter on anti-virus, of other system programs (risking data loss).
