Raijintek Triton 280mm Coolant Problem!

Post by DJ Tucker »

I got this cpu cooler and noticed that the coolant isn't clear. in fact it's misted with white pieces floating around in it. it's all stuck to the tubing with a thin white layer almost like lime scale. anyone know if this should be like that?

I would say no, it should not be that way but you should at least ask the manufacturer (never heard of them) or the place you bought it.

Seller may just do a fast RMA to make sure.

Almost sounds like the tubing or something would have been colored but it flaked off. I am NO expert though so maybe it should look that way..... I would be worried the pieces floating around would clog something up.

from the sound of it its time to drain and clean the loop.

The discoloration in the tube and "floaty" bits are buildup in the loop. Could be there was something not clean when the loop was filled, combined with plasticizer leaching from the tubing, throw in UV light and things can grow in the loop.

Looking into that cooler, its an aluminum rad with nickel plated copper cold plate (Yay mixing metals!!)

It looks to use traditional compression fittings, so you could drain it, flush the system with distilled water, replace the tubing, and refill it with distilled water or something like Primochill.

and if there are chunks floating through, it could be in the channels in the cold plate, so that should be taken apart and cleaned as well.

Hard pressed to tell what was in the cooler from the factory.

Well after a little chat with the company I got it from, they was happy to replace the product and pick it up from my local drop off/collection point. They have said, from the photos I provided, that it should not be like that. They also said it should be clear and it clearly wasn't checked before being sent out to me. Will be sent out tomorrow and a replacement will be here within the week :)

You should never buy radiators made of aluminum. Just copper.

I figured that out now lol. the aluminium was the issue. they admitted that the stock of that cooler had been on the shelf for 7 months and I was the first to buy one and admitted they didn't check to see if the cooler was ok before shipping it out. wont be buying from that company for a while :(
