Event ID 41....Power Kernel
My recently built Asus/AMD system(see My Sig) has been randomly rebooting. About every 2 weeks.
The first couple times I just ignored it, but this has happened several times(7 to be exact, according to the Event Viewer)
Each time has been the same details in the EV!
"Event ID 41 Power Kernel" Possible Crash or power fluctuation.
I did some research and TomsHardware says it is the PSU and not Windows!
So before I go changing the PSU has anyone else ever experienced this issue?
Side Note: The PSU is the ONLY piece of hardware that was Not New when I put the system together!
I'm pretty sure I posted on fitting the PSU in my ANTEC 900, it didnt leave much room for cable management!
The PSU is a Corsair RM750X and is almost 5yrs old!
With that said, I've been running iCUE and watching Voltage and Fan Speeds for the last few weeks!
I have never seen 12V go over 11.91V, mostly it hovers around 11.85 to 11.89.
5V hovers at 5 to 5.01.
3.3V sits on 3.42 steady!

Re: Event ID 41....Power Kernel
Weird but I found that it could be audio drivers.....Windows is such a mess lol -
I am guessing you did all the normal things like reseating all cards and power connections in your devices and the PSU (if it's modular), update windows, update drivers (see above).....
I guess the easiest way to test if the PSU is the problem is to swap it with another one and see what happens.
I do not have this error in my event log so I wont be much help other than searching
- https://ugetfix.com/ask/how-to-fix-kern ... indows-10/The vast majority of devices that returned the Kernel Power 41 Error were running outdated drivers, in particular, audio drivers. Also, if you have currently inserted some additional RAM or connected new devices to the system, the error system might be provoked by these factors too. Thus, the most suitable fix for this error would be to update audio drivers and see if that helps. In case of a failure, it’s advisable to update other drivers as well.

Re: Event ID 41....Power Kernel
Well things have taken a turn for the worse!
I ran Win update and the only update failed! Twice!
After I ran Win Update it has rebooted 3 times. Pretty sure 1 maybe 2 of those were due to the update failure(s).
No, I have not done anything physical to the setup! Its in a spot that makes it hard to get to
and definitely won't be able to do anything with it where its at!
Im trying to get my wife to cleanup her stuff in the dining room, so I can use that table to work from!
Ok while Im sitting here typing this post, a windows message came up and said "Scan Drive to Fix Errors"
Which Im doing now!
ok when it booted up not everything has loaded!
Really starting to think something is screwed up!
Yeah that scan & fix didnt do squat!
Hitting the reset button now!
After reboot I checked EV and 2 new Critical events, same as before!
Guess its time to Dig Into It!
Oh, on a slightly positive note.....
While going through all this I Enabled TPM 2.0 and now its ready for win11!
UPDATE: Its 4:40am and it seems to be running fine!

Re: Event ID 41....Power Kernel
I need a TPM fob/card/dongle/whatever to enable it on mine since I have the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 which does not have built in TPM. People are selling those cards for stupid amounts now too. Guess I will be happy with Windows 10camaroguy1998 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 12:18 am Oh, on a slightly positive note.....

Glad it seems to be running fine now! What was the problem? File system corruption?

just to let you know anything older than ryzen 2nd gen and intel 8th gen are not compatible with windows 11. you may not even be able to install it now that microsoft has built in code to detect cpu at install

Re: Event ID 41....Power Kernel
At this point I have no idea whats going on!
When I ran the Scan and Fix it hung on the reboot!
I had to hit Reset!
Since then its been running fine!
I'm really starting to think I may be looking at 2 problems or Windows is the issue!
Seriously considering a windows reload offered within Win10 without a physical copy!
Yeah, I'm looking at All Possibilities!
Then again, Maybe the PSU is the cause of all these issues!?! No I do not have another PSU to switch it out!
I'm going to change the power strip first, but it was new when I set it up and there are only 3 things plugged into it!
(Computer, Monitor and PSU for spkr amp!)
Up time is 22hrs, 36mins...so far!

try running cmd as admin and run sfc /scannow. This will find and fix any windows corruption

Re: Event ID 41....Power Kernel
Website keeps logging me out when I type my reply...
My 3 or 4 cents on your troubles:
1: older psu on a new build generally comes with issues, whether it appears right away or down the road.
2: Built-in Reset option: I always had issues with that even with a brand new laptop and install. IF the Scan & fix hangs, the reset could likely hang too. Clean install from USB or Disc is best.
3: Scan your drive for any issues with CrystalDisk or WD Diag Tool . Rule out that drive to be safe. A failing drive will cause weird sh*t too.
Windows 11 on older cpu's can be done with a registry tweak and TPM 1.2 on the board at minimum

Re: Event ID 41....Power Kernel
If you want to drive 20-30 minutes over here I can loan you a PSU. I have a good number sitting here as spares.
Some things I do under cmd as admin:
sfc /scannow
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Those will likely fix some errors or at least show if you have errors. I had a system this week that was too far gone and the above couldn't fix the errors and I just did a clean install. Also, update all system drivers and the motherboard/GPU UEFI/BIOS.
The Antec High Current Gamer 900W was listed on Amazon 11 years ago to the week, so might be time for an upgrade if that is the model you are using.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix them all.
And details on where to find CBS log
I ran dism/online/cleanup-image/restorehealth that came back as...
The restore operation completed successfully.
Its been running for more than 2 days 3hrs now and no problems yet.
Im going to let it run for a cpl days and see what happens.
When time permits I will make sure all drivers are up to date!

I ran CrystalDisk and it came back "Good! 100%"
Its been running 3 days now and Zero Issues!
I have a question, what exactly does "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" Do?
Better question, can it fix what sfc/scannow could not?
UPDATE: I googled it and it does say that it can fix what sfc/scannow cannot!
So I guess its wait and see!
P.S. I want to Thank you guys for the Help!
This is why I always come to LR First!
I've learned more in the last day then the past year! Yeah, Old Dog, New Stuff!

Re: Event ID 41....Power Kernel
Well It made 6 days, but not 7!
I was on it this afternoon(wed 10-12-21) but,
when I sat down with it this evening. I moved the mouse the screen came on but,
was blank except for the cursor and the spinning circle showing it was busy!
No matter what I tried(esc, ctrl-alt-del..etc) nothing happened!
I finally hit the reset button and it rebooted and runs fine!
The only Critical event in the EV was me hitting the Reset button!
Yes it is the same error "Event ID 41....Power Kernel"
So, I went over all the Critical Errors specifically the ones it rebooted AND the ones I created by rebooting!
About 1/3 of those were me hitting Reset after some type of (Windows?) Issue!
What's starting to aggravate me is that Win10 Pro didn't make a full year on a Brand New setup!
I did not have any issues until 1 month before Win11 release date(Cynical Sid talking there)

Re: Event ID 41....Power Kernel
Ouch. I still haven't had any real problems with windows 10 pro *knocking on wood* other than a few crashes that restarted the kernel (which never works right and you have to do a complete restart anyway).
Maybe now is the time to try windows 11 and see if it fixes the issues - if you can with the stupid restrictions MS put on it.

I read Win11 gives you 10 days to go back, after that you would have to wipe the drive and reload Win10.
I really dont have anything of importance on that computer soooo!

Re: Event ID 41....Power Kernel
First question, what Known Issues are you having!
I'm doing my best not to jump on the Win11 train, right away!
M$ always has issues with a first release!
With that said, the computer passed the health check and supports Win11 but, I'm still not getting the Upgrade offer yet!
My thought for now is to do the reload from within windows and see what happens.
If that works great, if not, I will probably do a Clean Install from the original USB!
It all comes down to making/taking the time to do it!

Re: Event ID 41....Power Kernel
i had driver issues for gpu and ethernet. microsoft working with intel so much they fixed the issue but in turned killed amd performance mainly on zen + but some have reported issues with zen 2. the nvidia issue was fixed by nvidia as microsoft bugged driver support for rtx cards across the board. so nvidia had to change driver level support for windows 11 again and now it's working again
