Re: Need for Speed!
Speedtest says I get 11down and 4up but have never seen the 11 down in normal activities
Country living is great except for internet. I may try out Starlink but the $500 up front cost kills it - same monthly price as we pay now for our crappy speed though.

Re: Need for Speed!
I was surprised the UP was a hair faster than the Down!
Apparently Fiber is Better, even if its not in your diet!
City Life has its Perks!
Damn $500 up front!
That puts you in a spot where,
You will think twice before walking away if you're not happy with the service!

Re: Need for Speed!
think yourself lucky. to get above 150mbps we have to get a modem that connects to the router or pay over £3000 to have a fibre line down the street direct to the home. ok that can be spilt by anyone on the street that wants fttp but still that's a lot of cash.

Re: Need for Speed!
You should be able to get starlink also. I think the worldwide release is before the end of the year. Speeds I have been hearing and seeing have been 50mbps and up.DJ Tucker wrote: ↑Wed Nov 10, 2021 4:36 amthink yourself lucky. to get above 150mbps we have to get a modem that connects to the router or pay over £3000 to have a fibre line down the street direct to the home. ok that can be spilt by anyone on the street that wants fttp but still that's a lot of cash.
So around $4000 in my fake USD - Hell I would go to the 3 other houses on our private road and the houses close by to see if they all wanted to split it to get fibre! Well depending on how much the monthly fee is. We pay $100 a month now so would have to figure it out and see how fast return on investment would pan out compared to what we have now.

Re: Need for Speed!
My old FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) speeds
My new FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) speeds
My old speed cost me £25/$30 a month and my new speed £42/$51 a month. Not bad for 80% cost increase for 11 times the speed increase on download and 5 times the speeds on upload.

Nice! Welcome to Fiber World!
Can you tell the difference?
I dont really see the difference in speed(had 300mb) but,
The Bandwidth is awesome! Everyone in the house can be online, stream TV and game without any issues!

Re: Need for Speed!
Yes i can tell the difference especially when the kids are watching youtube as they always do and the wife is watching netflix. Before we couldn't do that without bandwidth issues but now i can download a game, play a game and be streaming on discord with friends while all of the above is happening and without a hiccup.camaroguy1998 wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 12:51 am Nice! Re: Need for Speed!
Hello no, I would never want to live in a city again after living out here. So peaceful, animals all over and not having a house right next to mine is very nice! Although had to fill up the 5 gallon gas containers yesterday for the riding mower and with the car it was all but $100 for 20 gallons of gas...little more but I think it is $4.59 (and 9/10th how stupid) here.camaroguy1998 wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 3:30 amYou need to move to the big city!

No 5g here yet lol - maybe in 4 years. I tried all the home 5g ones and none offer service at my address. Only option for something that is faster would be starlink but the upfront cost is what deters me.

There's always a Trade-Off for everything! Country Living has some great points and a few Not so great points!
Hard to pass on that Peaceful Easy Feeling!
Animals...I've had Rabbits, Ground Hog, Squirrels, Opossum, Raccoons, Fox, Coyote and Deer in my yard! And that doesn't count the Stray Cats & Dogs!
My Next Door Neighbor still has 2 of the Litter of 4 Kittens born on my back porch!
Here in the StL area gas is $4.29! At one point StL was said to have the cheapest gas in the US, not so sure anymore!
If gas gets any higher it may be cheaper to Hire someone to cut the grass for me!
I just spent $100 on fertilizer!
