PNY XLR8 D22GX93XLP-5 (DDR2 1173) Memory Review

PNY has been around for quite a while in the memory and video card market. Most enthusiasts would normally think of PNY as a budget part, but with the release of their XLR8 series, PNY hopes to capture some of the enthusiast market. Can they do it? Let's take a look at one of their 2GB kits that is rated to operate at 1173MHz and find out on both AMD and Intel based systems.

Once you open up the box, you can see that the dims are securely packaged, leaving no room for shipping damage. The dims themselves are also quite impressive looking. In fact, when you were young and in school, you can probably remember the one kid that was just huge, not fat, but huge, and had been shaving since the age of four. You would look at that kid and just be impressed because of his stature. That is the same way we felt when we opened up the box with this kit. These dimms are huge, just massive!

nice review, but i have to point this out, in page 3, you say something along the lines of "stability was determined by running our battery of tests, and the ability to run a super pi 32mb test, as well as our battery of test" and on the bottom of the first page you say that the dimms are rated at 5-5-5-12, but the picture above says 5-5-5-15

Odd speed rating :|

At 200$ I bet they won't sell too many! I'd rather get 4x 1GB of Crucial Ballistix for like 150$!

Okay....you know the deal "bought it but thought it was someting else". :(

Anyway I now have a set of these (used) for what appeared to be a good price. What can I use them for as all of my systems have nice 8500s in them? Had thought about putting them in the 790GXE / 945 build but wanted to keep the 4GB Dominators as I may try Win7 and 2 x SMP down the line.

They also seem very overkill for DreamCatcher's 760G / 720 BE, and I do have a 790GX XE / 720BE but that is for sale and has some nice g. skill in there.
