The Diamond HD 4870 graphics card is the ATI Radeon HD graphics card to have if you are playing the latest game titles on the market. The Diamond HD 4870 1GB can take today’s latest games and blitz right through them, providing buttery smooth gaming enjoyment. At a price under $300, high end gaming never looked so good and cost so little. In the driver department I have had no problems with ATI’s 8.12’s. The inclusion of the AVIVO video converter for FREE is a welcome sight. I like that I don’t need to install third party applications or a second utility aside from the driver to do basic temperature monitoring, basic overclocking, and tweaking the fan speed...

Great review of a great pair of cards!

I'd just like to say though, ATI's AVIVO video converter may not be such an advantage over Badaboom. Why? From what I read and saw, Badaboom actually works unlike ATI's AVIVO.

i tried to do an AVIVO review on 12/10/2008 when it launched and guess what... It wouldn't work on 64-bit OS's as it doesn't work or crashes... I have badaboom v1.1 now and it's very nice... If only AMD could have pulled off the converter, but I'll tell you what it won't be free forever and you can quote me on that.

Heard the same thing. I think I'm sticking with nVidia for now.

Nice article. Shows the ATI 4870 1GB performance compared to the GTX 260. Seems that in some games, the GTX 260 is better and vice versa. Guess it all comes down to pricing and whether you're an ATI or NVIDIA fanboy.

May I ask why you didn't overclock the shaders?

There isn't an independent shader domain on the RV770 core. The shaders run at the same speed as the rest of the core.
