NZXT Khaos Welded Aluminum Full Tower PC Case

Today, we will be looking at the new NZXT Khaos full tower case. The new Khaos has tons of features and a design that NZXT says makes the Khaos an ‘Ultra Premium’ enthusiast chassis. So join us as we give the most expensive case to come through Legit Reviews a good once over.

Just taking a quick look at the Khaos you can see the two 120mm blue LED fans for fresh air intake on the front of the case and just the overall size of this full tower compared to these fans. The Khaos can hold over 8 hard drives along with eleven 5.25" bays for drives such as CD-ROMS, Temperature Displays, and multi-format readers. To top it off, the Khaos has rubber wheels attached on the bottom to make moving the chassis around the home or LAN party quick and easy.

$450 for a case... I think I can find a better use for my cash in this economy.

$450! And to boot it's not even well constructed. At that price you should be able to run over it with an 18 wheeler and still be able to use it. For that price every available fan slot should have a fan already in place and ready to go. At that price it shouldn't look like it was thrown together (external aesthetics).

From my observations of NZXT they are all about the bling and less about the quality. I built my cousin a PC a few years back and he showed up with one of their cases. Needless to say I wasn't impressed.

Call me boring but for that price give me a Lian Li any day of the week.

I couldn't help but notice the part on top with power/reset/usb/etc was insanely similar to CM's ATCS840

I honestly think you went too easy on them in the review. 450 dollars for that kind of quality deserves a good bashing IMO.

I did a review a couple of years ago over at PCAPEX.COM on the MGE (NZXT) Dragon case, and the qaulity control issues you bring up do not surprise me in the least. I was pretty surprised when I saw the price of the Khaos after having seen what kinda of quality issues I saw in the Dragon case.

In all fairness all the past NZXT cases I have seen and used are good cases, but they had fitting prices as well. The Tempest is a good example of that.

As for the Khaos, I was very excited about it when I got it and pulled it out of the box. I fully intended to make it my new primary case. I became more disappointed as I went on, then when I looked up how much it cost.

After I finished my review I went looking to see what others had thought about it. almost all had mixed feelings about the case, some loved it, some hated it.

Think I was more disappointed then anything.

the NZXT - case i won off of this site a few months back is great. I would def buy another case from them.. though never one that cost $450 -

First off good review Shane!

I like the NZXT cases I've seen so far, well until this one.
I even purchased the the NZXT Rogue after reading the review!
After putting it all together I liked it even more! NZXT definitely builds their cases with plenty of room to work in!
But for $450+ thats just too much!
I have a Lian Li PC-75 which is an all aluminum full tower and it was less than half that price. ($200)
That would leave at least another $200 for mods and/or a Nice PSU!

IMHO....It cost too much!

I like the twin power supply idea. I hope more manufacturers adopt that type of a layout in the future with dual and quad video card setups becoming more and more common.

I have the NZXT Sentry fan controller and love it. It works great, looks good, and after modification really sets off my rig. But this case appears to be quite a disappointment. Reminds my of the Canyon. I too hate the trap door setup. I think I'll continue to hold out for the Corsair case.

Redundancy in an enterprise environment, or like Skip mentioned, someone could get two lower wattage PSUs for their Quad-SLI or Crossfire-X platforms.

These 1000w PSU's are super expensive, sometimes over $200. You could easily get two lower powered PSU's do to the same task. It would/could also increase the number of 12V rails in the system which is becoming a problem for people such as myself who run dual video cards when each card requires dual 12V rails. Fortunatly Corsair makes cables for my PSU that allow dual 12V connections out of a single rail and it's stable. Been running like that for over a month now with no ill effects.

Running dual PSU's CAN lower your systems temp by putting less load on the components and increasing the ammount of air circulated over them. Instead of one PSU pushing 1000w w/ 1 120mm fan you could have two pushing 500w each and two 120mm fans (one each supply). This is purely theoretical on my part but seems to make logical sense.

I don't see how the motherboard would get two power source via the included ATX power adapter.

Motherboard gets power only from one PSU. The cable just jump starts the second PSU.

So what part in the system gets the redundant power?

That would be only if you used a server motherboard that supports redundant PSUs

I was gonna do 2 power supplies but I wanted more space..But I kept the old one in case the 1000 watter ever needs help. would've been cheaper but I wanted to have a 200mm led fan on top of the tower.
