Ouch, those write speeds are a little disappointing. I was expecting it to at least be equal with the Vertex in that area.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I just got a response back from Intel on the black stuff on the PCB that wasn't there in the original review:
The black stuff is called underfill and is used to improve the mechanical reliability of the drive. It is an industry standard practice to use underfill. All production units have this underfill (Intel and Kingston). The original pictures of the Intel drive on Legit Reviews were from early units that did not have the underfill.
I find it interesting that Intel is the only SSD maker that I have seen use underfill. I wonder how much it improves the reliability of the drive.

I wonder if it is simply for shock protection or maybe it had dissipation properties as well?

Can't get enough of these SSD's can we! Love the reviews here, happy to see excessive testing of potential purchases. Love this site!

Side note [rant]
Now if we could get HDD manufacturers to stop rounding down their measurements and start measuring them at 1024 increments I would be happy [/rant]

Those write speeds blow.. I thought the Intel SSD was a little faster than that? I haven't been keeping up with SSDs.
