IN-WIN Maelstrom Full Tower Case Review

IN-WIN has a new extreme case out called Maelstrom that boasts an impressive capacity for 120mm case fans should one be so inclined to max it out. How many fans? Read the article to find out and see if it makes the grade as a full tower extreme chassis.

The IN-WIN Maelstrom case is a full tower chassis in their Destiny-extreme series which, if you can’t discern from the name, is geared towards high-end systems. While a full tower case, it is not quite as overwhelmingly large as some in that category although it still has some heft to it at roughly 27lbs. Retailing for $109.99 shipped, it certainly is a fair amount cheaper than many higher-end cases and hopefully after reading this, you’ll have a good idea as well as our opinion on if the price represents a good value for this product.

Nice looking case, though I'm not too keen on the green bumper/handles on the front. I really like the four USB and two eSata plugs on the top. The price looks decent as well.

Yeah, the handle things are kinda goofy. They would be much cooler if they could be used to lift the case.

I'm not big on cammo...this case might work well with a Tron theme with the day-glow fans and all. I'm not sure if you noticed but the tie wraps I uses for the cables matched the fans and accents.

To blingy for my tastes but a nice case none the less.

Am I the only one that doesn't like this case.

For the money it's an ok case. But I don't care at all for the looks of it. I'd much rather have a Panzerbox or a Antec.

I actually like it. It's not the best looking case out there but functionally, it fits the bill. No one sees my PC for the most part anyway so I generally don't care how it looks (ok, a hot pink case would not work )

I'm a long-time viewer, first-time poster, (pardon the cliche). Great site! I have LR bookmarked right up there with Tom's and AnandTech.

I had to sign up after reading this review as I have a burning question.

Could 2 radiators be installed on the side grill (inside or out)? I mean, are the holes in the right place and is the panel sturdy enough?

It looks to me like a nice compact "big water" system could be built that way. Set the 4 regular case fans to intake and the 6 radiator fans to exhaust.

The handles on front have to go, though. Or at least be painted black.

meh, not a fan of the handles either. Can they be taken off?

Since the panel is mesh, I don't see a reason why you couldn't mount a rad there. Even with my GX2 card there is plenty of clearance.

Sure. They are just plastic pieces.

hah yeah that was not clear. I was hoping to hear they were screwed in.

If you leave this thing parked on the carpet and have pets prepare to dust your system out every month.
