EVGA GeForce GT 240 Video Card Review

The EVGA GeForce GT 240 SuperClocked graphics card features overclocked GDDR5 memory, with twice the bandwidth of GDDR3 for blazing fast performance at a mainstream price point. With a native HDMI port on-board, the GT 240 offers the flexibility to connect both audio and video, via one cable, to any HDMI enabled monitor. Is this card right for you? Read on to find out!

Two weeks ago NVIDIA released the GeForce GT 240 graphics card to help fill in the gap in pricing and performance between the GeForce GT 220 and GeForce GT 250 graphics cards. The GeForce GT 240 is nothing new in terms of features and performance, but the chip that powers it is made using the latest 40nm manufacturing process at TSMC. The GeForce GT 240 is aimed at the entry level discrete graphics card market at the fiercely competitive $99 price point. Taking a look at some of the key specifications over the past few generations of NVIDIA graphics cards you can see that the EVGA GeForce GT 240 SuperClocked should be slightly faster than the GeForce 9600 GT since it has more shader units (stream processors), but slightly slower than the GeForce 9800 GT as it has fewer shader units. When it comes to memory bandwidth the GT 240 has just a 128-bit bus, but as you can see the faster GDDR5 memory ICs make up for the narrow bus and the memory bandwidth is nearly identical to the GeForce 9600 GT and 9800 GT video cards.

Shame there isn't direct comparison between this card and 9600/9800. but hey, you can't blame reviewers for nvidia releasing an outdated card obviously hoping that people who are confused by their policy will pay twice as much as they should.

I will try to get a 9800 GT or a 9600 GT in the mix if I can... We have about 40 things that need to be reviewed right now and everyone wants them done this year. Not enough days left in the year and everyone works slower when it comes to the holidays!

I'm not sure such 'innovative' products are worth any extra effort. There must be some more exciting things amongst those 40.

yes, very much so... lol

That is why I didn't toss more cards like the 9600GT and 9800GT into the mix... spending hours benchmarking cards from Q1 2008 doesn't seem like fun to me since Q1 2010 is a month away.

Skimmed through the article. Basically a 9600GSO that's using a 40nm process, and a lower memory bit bus. I'm not liking NVIDIA at all.
Intel Core i5-3570K @ 4.2Ghz @ 1.16V (CPU-Z + LinX)
Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H F14 BIOS
ASUS GTX 460 768MB @ 800/1950
Kingston HyperX DDR3 8GB @ DDR-1333
Corsair AX750
Crucial M4 128GB
Western Digital Black 1TB
Cooler Master Hyper 212+ EVO
BenQ E2420HD

So this card won't be any better for folding than a 9600 GSO?
Cyberpower generic case
B450M PRO-VDH MAX
Ryzen 5 3600 w/PBO/OC
CM Hyper 212 EVO push/pull
Corsair VENGEANCE LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3600 CL16
MSI RTX 3060 Ti Ventus 3X 8G OC LHR
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB
6GB Seagate HDD
EVGA 650BQ 650W PSU
ASUS VE278 27" monitor, Dell E2216HV (vertical)
Logitech Z533 2.1 Speakers, G935 7.1 or G435 headset
MS LXM-00001 keyboard
Razer Deathadder Elite, XBOX One Lunar Shift controller

I've come a long way from my original Core2Duo E6750 build y'all! :supz:
