Intel Core i5-661 Processor Review

If you haven’t figured it out yet, the Clarkdale i5-661 spells the end of the road for the high end, and much loved Core 2 Duo line (E8xxx, Penryn) and the Core 2 Quad (Q9xxx, Yorkfield). With the process shrink to 32nm, Intel has brought a significant CPU performance increase to the mainstream markets. When coupled with the capable Intel HD Graphics processor, this is a very effective combination.

I'm up in the air about this product. It's nice for a HTPC but really not much else, based on various reviews.

Great Super Pi 1M chip if you are into extreme overclocking, otherwise it is terrible with regards to benchmarking. I think the Core i3 processors are more interesting for a light-weight desktop though. Core i5 is too expensive.

although it is good for the GPU, it seems to be equivalent to a GT240 or so which is plenty for a HTPC and mainstream use i'd think

well it is a good thing that hyper threading is enable in this i5.

I just read the review and I'd like to make a correction.

The x264 v3.04 benchmark measures how fast a system can encode a short, DVD quality MPEG-2 video clip into a high-quality H.264 HD video clip.

The benchmark converts 720p MPEG-2 video to 720p H.264. There's no resizing being done on the clip. Just a straight 2-pass x264 encode. The first version of the benchmark converted DVD quality MPEG-2 (720x480) to x264. I now forget what parameters were used but I don't think any resizing was involved, either.

Hey, I know this post is from January but I was wondering if this board would cope with Adobe After Effects and Adobe Prem Pro? I want to get either this one or the 750 with either the Intel® Hunter Cove or the Intel® H55 Tom Cove with 4 gigs ddr3 to start with. I know all the components work together but I'm more worried about all of it being x64 bit compliant and how it will cope with editing and rendering? All of it has to work with x64 because the new version of Adobe (CS5) is x64 bit native...
