Noctua NH-U12P SE2 CPU Cooler Review
Noctua has made their ever popular NH-U12P cooler compatible with the new Intel LGA1156 socket. Join us as we look over the NH-U12P SE2. The NH-U12P SE2 ships with Noctua's SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system that combines outstanding compatibility, optimal contact pressure and easy, straightforward installation on Intel LGA1366, 1156 and 775 platforms as well as AMD socket AM2, AM2+ and AM3 platforms.
Back in February of 2008 we had our first encounter with Noctua and their (at that time) flagship cooler, the NH-U12P. This cooler was initially release with LGA775 and AM2 platforms in mind. Since its release there have been new sockets come to market. When Intel released the LGA1366 socket, Noctua released a new version of their SecuFirm mounting system and a dual fan version of the NH-U12P, the NH-U12P SE. Now with the release of the LGA1156 socket Noctua has again updated their cooler mounting system to accommodate the new socket and released a new version of the NH-U12P, the NH-U12P SE2. The NH-U12P SE2 is the same cooler that was released back in 2008; it just has the updated mounting system and a couple of extra accessories that the first release didn’t have.

I like Noctua, I have two of their coolers. Thanks for the info on the SecureFirm2 (or whatever it is). I'll ask them for two.

Any idea on how the clearance will be for people with RAM that has tall heatsinks?

I don't remember the dimension, but you can get a good feel for the space. This is the Kingston value RAM on the DX58SO

The Kingston HyperX T1 modules stand 60mm in height and the Corsair Dominators with the top fins stand ~54mm tall... Will be a tight fit on some motherboards!

You can take off the fins on the Dominators though

yeah that drops them down to 43mm.... about 2mm goes into the socket... ~41mm tall with a heatsink that comes down to 40mm within the board...
Like I said -
Will be a tight fit on some motherboards!

If you move the fan up you will gain headroom for the RAM, but pushes you closer to the case side.

Yeah, I know, but my case doesn't have a side panel window so its all good LOL
I'm like'n it so far. Suck part is reinstalling everything
Darn thing will be all night pulling my games off steam.

i only use a case door if i need direct airflow really badly, i admire it too often to use a door ;)
wait, you can install all your games in one night
i can only get one every 12hrs or so
except GTAIV, that takes like 3 nights or better

Yeah, but I stopped at 9. Kinda brought my connection to a snails pace LOL, grabbing and installing these now.
