Thank you so much for including this new test. Good article and if I had a spare Grant I'd pick one up to plop in my HTPC.

no problem... It was actually the most interesting to me of all the benchmarks run and the most important page of the review.

What other tests would you like to see on video cards?

Just the video encoding with the card. But like you said before that is easier said than done.

The memory clock looks a tad high. Compared to what is on newegg this looks to be 100Mhz higher then some. I read somewhere else that ATI sent out the wrong cards.

which encoding program are you thinking?

The only one that comes off the top of my head, that uses ATi and nVidia is Cyberlink Espresso. But with such a limited number of profiles and options I'm not sure I'd be all that interested in it's results. Any idea if Premiere Pro uses both CUDA and STREAM? I would be nice to see a program that uses both but rips a Blu Ray to a HD MKV file for comparison.

Here is one that I thought should be posted in the public forum... I won't mention any names though in case they wanted it totally private, but I don't see why.

Hi Nate, How are you ? Most of my friends and familiar peoples in my country uses monitors which has resolutions of 1440x900. I was thinking about requesting you that can you make benchmark results with this resolution ? It will help us very much.

I actually get this request numerous times throughout the year, so I'll tackle this heads on...

1440x900 = 1,296,000 pixels on a 3:2 aspect ratio
1280x1024 = 1,310,720 pixels on a 5:4 aspect ratio

As you can see both screen resolutions have basically 1.3 million pixels. You are talking about a 14,720 pixel difference or 1%

My testing with a monitor at 1280x1024 has just 1% more being shown on the screen than compared to what you want me to run at. This is not a significant difference as both screen resolutions have virtually identical pixel counts. Since a 1440x900 screen is 1% smaller the performance would be about that much better. Since that is well within the margin of testing we don't have to change the resolution to help out the people that play games at 1440x900.

I'm game for using it in reviews, but It is hard to pick a winner as the image quality difference between AMD and NVIDIA is different... That is what I hate about using that as a benchmark. The speed is only one part of the equation.

Sorry Nate. It's easy for me to say what you should and shouldn't do with your website. It would be nice if Handbrake would get some CUDA and STREAM support. Espresso is not a very good program, as far as I'm concerned, the options and outputs are too limited. But like I said previously I do like the Blu Ray playback comparison. Thanks again.
