AXLE Radeon HD 5670 Video Card Review

We take a look at look at seven video cards around the $100 price point from both NVIDIA & AMD and run them on eight benchmarks at two resolutions to see how they perform. The goal for testing is to give the readers good feel of the AXLE Radeon HD 5670 video card and a feel for performance in popular game titles running OpenGL and DirectX 9, 10 and 11.

The AXLE Radeon HD 5670 1GB we have here is a reference design model with a custom Arctic Cooling (or "ARCTIC" now) heatsink assembly identical to the one found on the AXLE GeForce GT 240 512MB we reviewed late last year. Searching various retailers found that there are only a handful of HD 5670's that have a overclock from the factory, and only in the realm of 10-15MHz on the core or memory, not on both.

Link to forums at the end of the article returns you to the main page, FYI. Is it me or are there too many midrange ATi cards? I understand why they do it, to saturate the market with their products, but seriously. Some of the models just seem like a clock increase and different RAM (DDR2 vs DDR3).

Now a question, since this card doesn't have a Crossfire bridge does that somehow make the card perform worse if you do run 2 of them? Or is the Crossfire bridge less of an issue with ATi cards?

well that's just what they are, market saturation. going all the way up the budget sectors so that ATI WILL have a card for how much you want to spend on one, would you rather have 10 different options from $80 to $700 for solid DX11 cards at varying performance levels or only 2 options for either $350 and $600 each? personally i'd rather more options so i dont have to buy one card every two years. same goes for processors, you have basically one die, but give it 10 different multipliers and bam! 10 different chips at varying prices, how its always been and always will be and its up to the buyer to find out just what they're getting

you just buy one if you dont already have one lol i have 3 xfire bridges i dont use so if i need one all i have to do is look for where i left one, once i get my Thuban early next week i can run mix crossfire with/without the bridge (mix xfire because i only have one of each card) for curiosity. i have a feeling the second card just won't get recognized or do anything without it(much like nvidia cards have to either be in SLI or have the vga dummy to do anything)

Is that a PCI-e power plug I'm seeing on the card? I thought the 5670 didn't need one!

not many have one, though this biostar one does, was the only one on newegg i could find(i checked 1GB versions tho)

okay so i ran vantage with xfire enabled/disabled and when its enabled with both cards at stock it gets 14,200 for a GPU score, and when it is disabled but both cards installed it is down at 9551 marks(with just the 5770 alone was 9531)
