Today Legit Reviews takes a look at some memory with some bling, Crucial Ballistix PC2-5300. The Ballistix line is specifically built for performance enthusiasts who want to push the performance envelope and LR does just that. Read on to see if Crucial's Ballistix memory is the bling you need.

Its hard for me to find a negative with this memory. Its ran very well at its rated speed, overclocked extremely well, looks great, and is priced in line with other modules in its class.

ddr2 is sure on the rise. YOu see more and more review on them. It's good to see that th emarket has moved onto ddr2 and the speed of ddr2 is increasing.

WOAH! That is one hell of a light show! Pretty cool though.
Very nice review (as always). It's crazy to think how much faster speeds DDR2 can run over traditional DDR! As far as those speeds transfering to performance increases in the real world, what speed/timings of DDR1 do you think, for example, a 2x512 kit of DDR2-566 at those stock 4-4-4-10 timings would be equivalent to? Hopefully that question made sense, lol

I also liked to see the you include the extra information that many review sites do not include that can very crucial in the overall quality and reliability of a review...

Well I added this quote because most times, its true, but this morning recieved the following email from Crucial's PR Rep....

My name is _ and I'm Crucial's PR rep. I saw your Ballistix Tracer review and wanted to thank you for your fine work--excellent job. This is a very thorough, professional article and I appreciate the time you put into it.

One note is that I'm concerned with this line in the review:

"Please keep in mind that these memory modules were review samples and most likely handpicked as such..."

Crucial PR samples are ordered through the exact same channels used by our direct customers. You will never see a "cherry-picked" Crucial sample. I don't know if you were referring to the Crucial or Corsair part here, but know that when you review a Crucial product, you're receiving it as if you were a customer--same product, same packaging, same install guide, etc.

Yeah, because picked samples usually can clock higher when you push it (wonder if that can be read as engineering samples?). That's some pretty good RAM there....I might have to keep Crucial in mind in the future if I decide to build a DDR2-based system anytime soon. However, by the time that happens, they may have DDR3 or something better out there, but we'll see. Man, I'm gonna have to be careful, because if I ever start making some major change sometime soon, I will have a house full of enthusiast computers and nowhere to keep em, lol. Gotta love the enthusiast "addiction" though
