The Xion II case is a steel mid tower case that comes with everything you need in a case. This includes a 450W power supply, front and rear 120mm ball-bearing fans, and another 80mm ball-bearing fan in case window, all this at a price under $50.00. Read on as we assemble a system in the case and see what it can do.

There is plenty of room inside for what ever you might decide you need to install and where to hide the cables at. The two 120mm fans and the 80mm fan really pulls a lot of air across the PC at a noise level that will not make you insane. Plus the 450 watt power supply that comes with it seems up to the job to keeping your power hungry components happy. After a day of monitoring the power consumption the +12V averaged in at 12.6V, the +5V was running at 4.95V, and the 3.3V was at 3.312V.

Sounds like a nice case, good review. It would be nice to have a db reading on the noise level of the fans since it can be quite a subjective observation.

I should have noted that this is Mark King's first ever article when it comes to computer hardware. He's a local computer enthusiast here from St. Louis and has been working in the IT industry for 10+ years. Please give him a warm welcome to the site! He's a green reviewer, but I'll try to whip him into LR quality, but it wont take much seeing how well he did on his first article and he never once asked for help. I believe he did a fine job on his first review and as time goes on I'll get more in-depth I am sure.

Vstrom: Know of anyone that carries db monitors at a reasonable cost? I'd pick one up if you can find one that wont break the bank.

No, I don't. I just noticed it seems to be more documented in reviews nowadays. I didn't mean to come across as disrespectful if that's how it was taken...just providing feedback.

Thanks guys and I do want people to pick at my reviews so I know what people want to hear about. I'll have to look into getting something to do db readings. For me my cpu cooler drowns out any sound the case might make . My next case review will have a db statement!

Hiya Mark, welcome to the forums!! I gotta say I'm very impressed with your first review here. The way the article is formed, it looks as if you've: A. already been here awhile and have written several reviews and B. You might have done this for a living at some time or another. Very nice work, and I am really impressed with the case myself, as it offers a low-end solution for those who don't want to dish out the $100+ on a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream. Btw, is that PSU fairly reliable? If so, it might be a good case for me to use on future builds for customers (I do my building on the side, I have a manufacturing job during the day, as well as school full-time to become Cisco-certified and get my A.S. in Computer Technology). Nice job on the review. I'm not too keen on the overall looks of the case, I think it's just that whole "eXtreme gamer style" cases that don't really do it for me; but it's still not overdone. This case isn't nearly as bad as some of the other atrocities I've seen. YIKES!!! Other than that, it appears to have good cooling and a good price with a solid PSU. I'd say if you like the looks, it's a great budget case.

The PSU seems to be a generic PSU that they stuck their name on. I don't know how reliable you can call it. I've had it running for about week and a half straight now with no problems at all.

I really didn't care for the looks either. I'm not a big fan of doors on my pc. Thats really the only thing that I was disappointed in with this case. Other than that it has great cooling power and has lots of room. Howevr, for 50.00 bucks you'll have a hard time finding a better case.

Now that you put it that way, it sounds as if it would be a good case to use in customer situations; personally however, I would go with some much more stout, like the Tsunami, with its all-aluminum (?) construction and solid case door, not plastic like Xion's. Don't know how you feel about tooless installation, but I kinda appreciate that about the Tsunami. If I end up having a bad experience with that case, I will look into a decent-end Antec (can't afford Lian-Li, lol, couldn't justify paying close to 200 bucks for a plain-looking case). btw Mark, how is the IT market looking right now? I want to have all opportunities available to me as possible. Heard Cisco field isn't too strong right now, which is ironic since I'm taking all the classes necessary for CCNA certification (they're a requirement of my Associates curriculum in Computer Technology). It's a beautiful thing when you parlay (sp?) a hobby as a computer enthusiast into a lucrative career IMHO.

I need to get a new one. I have a Lian Li PC-60 case which is beautifully built and easy to work with but the f'n fans are so loud...it's not even that cool (temperature).

Then just replace the fans, and not the whole case :o, maybe lower the speed they are running @.

are they 80 or 120mm fans? I know evercool makes a high-flow (79 CFM) aluminum case fan. It's loud, but I think cooling won't be a problem in using those fans, heheh
