ASUS P67 Motherboards - P8P67, Maximus IV Extreme & Sabertooth P67
ASUS has sent over some pictures of their upcoming Intel P67 Express chipset powered motherboards and today we are going to show them to you and give you an idea on what you can expect on the next generation of motherboards. These motherboards are for the upcoming Intel 'Sandy Bridge' processors that use a new CPU socket called LGA 1155. The upcoming LGA 1155 socket is rumored to be launching during CES 2011 and you got to see these new boards!
The first board that we have to show you is the ASUS P8P67 Pro, which is a full size ATX solution. This board sports a black and blue color scheme and as you can see is totally passively cooled without the use of any heat pipes connecting the three blue heatsinks. The entire ASUS LGA1155 motherboard lineup uses a new VRM system that ASUS calls Digi+ VRM. This means that ASUS is now using digital VRMs on the boards and that ASUS' EPU microcontroller handles how many power phases are in use at any given time by monitoring the temperature and power draw on the board. We were told by ASUS That Digi+ VRM is able go down to just one power phase or go all the way up to 16 power phases on some of their boards. The ASUS P8P67 Pro has a 12+2 power phase design, so it would only be able to go up to 12 on this specific board.

I am really curious about the sabretooth P67 and how it fits into the lineup. If the covering is good, then why not have it on the top end ROG products. What is the purpose of it?

I'm very interested in the Mini-ITX versions that come out. I'm looking to redo my HTPC and this would be perfect, especially since Sandy Bridge is supposed to support Blu-Ray 3D (right?) in case I ever go down that route.

yeah... current gen does Blu-ray, so you can rest assured the next gen will easily support blu-ray.

I'll definitely happily await a Mini-Itx roundup if you have one lined up. If not, I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd appreciate it.

That's news to me. Where'd you get that info? Even NVIDIA recommends a minimum GT 430 or GT 240 for 3D and at best, Sandy Bridge only meets HD 5450/8500 GT/9400 GT.

Looks like I can't find out where I thought I saw this detail. I thought I read it on AnandTech but I can't find it there or the other sites I read. Sorry for the mixup.

SandyBridge can do Bluray, just like Fusion chips... not sure why you'd come out with an APU without that functionality.

We're talking about Blu-ray
3D and not just plain Blu-ray support.
