Bass Response on the SP2200 is definitely a shining moment for these speakers. Without a doubt they sound much better than most other "Gaming" or "PC" systems as Corsair has bass sent to the sub and it only handles the low end of the sound spectrum. Although, the sub is not without its flaws. It's not a perfect system and being a bass player I can definitely tell when the kick drum in some songs is being muffled in with the bass guitar.

This speaker system seems to be very wanting at it's price point. Its a 46 WATT (RMS) system. With what you mentioned to be a weak satellites / poor mid and highs.

At $89 it should be compared to the Logitech THX-Certified Speaker System Z623. Which is a 2.1 system that is currently $108 on amazon.com and 200 watts (RMS) (130Watt Subwoofer) THX certified. And known for having weak mids.

OR perhaps the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speaker System. Which is also a 2.1 system, currently $150 on amazon (I've seen it much cheaper) and 200 wat (RMS) THX certified. Known for shoddy construction.

I'd like to know your opinion on this set of speakers in comparison to other high-end gaming spectrum speakers at a similar price point.

I have yet to hear or really observer the Logitech Z623's yet, but compared to some of the older Logitech systems in that price range like the Z-2300's and the X-540's; Corsair's SP2200 system is definitely a better value in my opinion.

Compared to the Pro Media 2.1's, it's a close fight, but I would say the Corsair's subwoofer is just ever so slightly more accurate.
What I mean by that, is that the when playing a song that has a bass line and a kick drum that are resonation at close to the same frequency, you can tell which instrument is which. In constrast some of the other logitech systems I have listed to just either get muddy or muddle together.

I'm not very familiar with lower wat speaker systems. I had a 5.1 100 wat speaker system before my current logitech z2300s. And before that I only used headphones. [edit] oh and a infinity woofer and speakers in my car.

Are they still able to create the room shaking / door rattling boom? Something I've actually found pretty pointless. My sub woofer is too close to my desktop which ends up being unbearably loud. In contrast to my car stereo system in the trunk which makes my hatchback rattle and seat bump while I drive. Something that endlessly amuses me. Well back to my point. Noteing that my logitech speakers are overkill. Does the 48 wats you get provide enough boom for people who love the boom.

So far, I've managed to gather from your statements and the reviewers (kinda confused if the two are the same) that the Corsairs have better sound reproduction at the lower end of the spectrum in comparison to logitech's woofer and only slightly superior to promedia. What about the mid and highs?

For a computer setup, the 48w is more than enough.

Honestly; these things can fill up a 8' x 12' room pretty well if you position them right.

The thing about wattage is you can never have too much, but you can have too little. In this case though, the 48w is plenty. I hardly move these guys past 40% volume, because at that point, the physical loudness of the speakers exceeds what my pleasure zone is for volume.

As for rattle, the subwoofer in this setup is a lot more clean but it does give plenty boom. The nice thing is the right side satellite has a control for the subwoofer's intensity which more or less, allows you to control how much of that boom you want coming from the sub.

Personally I found around 50% to be the optimum point for me. It has enough power behind it that I can feel the kick drum in my heart (and as a drummer & bassist, that's really important for me) without having it feel like it's racking my brain around inside my skull.

Well , a amplifier can't produce more power then it draws , the power supply can only handle 42W at max .
42W is fine , just that they overrated it slightly . As for the chips you would be surprised it definitely contained individual TDA2030's and 1 TDA2050 .
I have no gripes about this speaker , i have seen much worser speakers then this set . ( And yes , TDA2030 and TDA2040 and TDA2050 and TDA2052 have comparably very low distortion figures )
I have bought a Sonic Gear ( don't ask me why ... they were on a warehouse clearance for only 9SGD$ ... ) and found fake tweeters ... Whatever , made my mods and this system sounds alot better , still doesn't sound right since it has no power at all .
