Any idea how much the SandForce chipset costs? It seems like anybody can get in the SSD market. There are a lot of brands with new SSDs that I've never heard of before.

That is under NDA... Anyone can buy the Sandforce processor/controller and use it in their SSDs. If you wanted to buy hundreds of them you could make your own as well. SandForce also supplies and makes the firmware for their own controllers. Over 30 companies use the SandForce SF2281 controller. The differences are mainly in the NAND Flash being used and then the slight differences that can be set in the firmware.

Exactly. Seems like it's easy to get into the SSD business with SandForce. That was my whole point. It's also why there isn't a big difference between drives. Seems like picking one to buy just comes down to warranty, price and bundle.

It gets harder and harder to write up reviews on the SandForce drives because for the most part, they are very much the same. I feel like a broken record sometimes.

I know how ya feel, mobo's don't vary much in performance. At least they can vary in features
