AMD Reality Check at FX GamExperience

AMD conducted a reality check for gamers down in Dallas, Texas for the FX GamExperience today that we were able to watch and tally up the results with them. For the challenge AMD setup up an area of the FX GamExperience venue with four test systems for two heads up tests. One system was powered by an Intel platform and the other by AMD and gamers had to pick which system played games the best.

Anyone in these forums go to this event? I'd go ask how it was on Hard's forums but it's full of self righteous DBs. That did take some balls on AMD's part to ask the question of which system is better. If they were doing video editing or other CPU intensive tasks (not gaming) then the polls would've been completely one sided.

So how was it? I didn't know if Kyle sent you the info or not. Is Kyle as abrasive as he seems in person?

Nope I flew down there Friday and spent the weekend there. It was a great event and it went really well. The setup took longer than they thought, but they managed to get all the major bugs worked out and opened the doors fashionably late. The attendees all loved it and I never heard one person complain about something serious. The sponsors also enjoyed it and got a ton of attention from real gamers. This type of a show brings in a slightly different audience than a LAN party, so it was cool to see it.

As for Kyle... He's a straight shooter and it's either white or black with him and there is no grey area. He stands his ground and for that reason he comes off as abrasive to some people. I've talked with him before i started LR more than a decade ago, so I might be immune to noticing it as well :) Kyle didn't have to let Legit Reviews, PC Per or other sites cover and attend his sites event, but he welcomed us down.

Everything you see posted on LR is done by staff.

Five people actually voted in favor of the gaming rigs powered by Intel HD Graphics as opposed to those powered by ATI/AMD gfx

Very interesting, but how can we be sure the CPU's were the bottlenecks in that last test?

I think that was the point. At high gaming resolutions a highend CPU is a highend CPU.

I skipped out on the 8150 because it wasnt worth 269.99.
Maybe they should have thrown a last gen CPU in thier reality check. Phenom X6 ... LOL
The conclusion would be... is the 8150 really an upgrade?

Dont worry AMD got my money with the cheapo FX 4100 to tide me over in the hopes for a better CPU for AM3+....
