Intel Xeon E5-2600 Sany Bridge-EP Server Processors

The Intel 'Grizzly Pass' server was just recently released by Intel. Today we are going to put it through it's paces. We are going to run several Intel 710 series SSD's in a RAID 5 array and test the system as a web server with several different operating system configurations. We will also be looking at the performance of the new Intel Xeon E5-2660 LGA2011 processors! Join us as we take a look at the latest entry into the server world by Intel!

Since each of the Intel Xeon E5-2660 processors has eight cores plus hyper-threading, the Intel Grizzly Pass server has a total of 32 threads of processing power. When the Windows task manager was opened up for the first time, we couldn't help being impressed by the look of 32 threads. It's hard to imagine that just a few short years ago we were oohing and aahing over dual core processors...

I'm not sure where this will end up. The five SSD's are ours, but they sent the bare bones server and CPU's. I've been cooking up some pretty big site changes for next month, so I might be tinkering with that server some more and replacing the current Xeon server that powers the site. I plan on rolling out a new frontend and backend in April (The new site is up and running on an R&D URL and coming along nicely), a new server in May and then forum enhancements in late May or early June. Lots of changes coming before the 10 year anniversary of the site this fall. It's been in the works for many months and should help ensure stability and growth for the site for years to come. The backend we are using now is beyond it's retirement date, so it will be nice.
