Corsair Vengeance 2000 Wireless 7.1 Gaming Headset Review

The Corsair Vengeance 2000 is a circumaural wireless gaming headset. It features memory foam filled ear pads, as well as a fully adjustable microphone. The Vengeance 2000 also features 7.1 virtual surround sound. Read on to see if we were able to get realistic multi-channel gaming audio and have that play-for-hours comfort that wired Corsair audio products do so well at.

Corsair wasn’t the first to make a wireless gaming headset, but they definitely did their homework when they designed the Vengeance 2000. Even after several hours of playing Battlefield 3, I was never uncomfortable or eager to remove the Vengeance 2000. The memory foam in the ear cups makes a huge difference when you’re going to be wearing something for an extended period of time.

If I didn't like my G35's as much as I do, I'd get these. Too bad there wasn't a comparison though. Nice review.

Unfortunately I didn't have any other wireless headsets to compare it to. I can tell you that the Vengeance 2000's were far superior to the Vengeance 1300's that I reviewed a month or so ago. All around audio quality was much better, the difference in the bass response on the 2000's was the biggest thing I noticed. The 1300's seemed to be designed for heightened sense sounds such as highs and mids for hearing the small details while gaming. The 2000's just had crisper sounds all around.

What I didn't see in this review (or any other one I've read on this headset) is what is the battery (aaa, round watch type, etc and what is the battery number), where is it located on the headset, what is the expected battery life, is it replaceable, and is it an easy battery to find (is it proprietary for Corsar only). After all this is a cordless headset with a BATTERY. Am I the only one who would like to know information about the battery?

Most of the time the batteries in these are not replaceable. I know in my SB Tactic Wraith's they are not replaceable at all. That is a drawback to these (especially considering the cost) but I figure by the time the battery stops holding a charge I can either just use them while plugged in or go with whatever else is better at that point. Basically with all the current offerings, if longevity is a big thing for you than a wireless headset is not for you. Cables piss me off as they always get caught on my chair though so for me the tradeoff was/is worth it.

After doing some digging online and spending about an hour trying to figure out how to disassemble the Vengeance 2000, I've come to the conclusion that Corsair just doesn't want this thing taken apart. Short of breaking it open, I've found virtually no way into it. Nor have I found any solid information on the battery inside it.

I asked Corsair to answer this for you last week and just got a response:

The Quick Start Guide mistakenly states that the battery is user-replaceable, but it is not.

Accessing the battery is not a user-friendly activity, and upon review of the design of the unit and the procedure required to replace the battery, we decided that the potential to damage the product is too high. We are therefore printing new Quick Start Guides that do not contain this message. Battery replacement will be handled by RMA. There will be nominal fee for out of warranty RMA battery replacement.

That response is what I figured, but still didn't give the price of the battery pack. I asked again for the exact price and was told this:

Undetermined.
There is a two year warranty so pricing quoted now will likely be inaccurate by then. We will price around providing customer service (not revenue) so the cost will be reasonable.

No dice... I tried, but they will not give me a dollar figure.

I guess Corsair just thought no one would care about the battery and it seems they were right as I see no comments/questions about it posted anywhere. I must be a weird dude who thinks of things like that (not). Huge oversight on Corsair's part as far as I'm concerned. If I would have been considering this headphone, it would be off my list now.
