Corsair Vengeance K95 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Last year, Corsair released the Vengeance K90 as one of two new keyboards. It was a big gamble for Corsair entering the crowded gaming peripheral market for the first time, electing to jump in with mechanical keyboards with the K90 being a very expensive keyboard. Mechanical keyboards were catching on back then and people of all sorts – gamers, typists, and computer enthusiasts – had their opinions regarding the Vengeance K90 keyboard. First there were those who scoffed at the idea of an expensive keyboard, the kind of person who would be blissful with a no frills membrane keyboard. Second, some felt cheated that the K90’s 18 macro keys were the only full-sized keys that weren’t mechanical, but in-fact membrane. Lastly, there were those who liked the K90 for what it was. For those unsatisfied with the older K90’s non-mechanical macro keys, the K95 is Corsair’s response to those criticisms.

Are there any places where you can go peck at a mechanical keyboard other than a Fry's? I have a very basic understanding of the differences between black, blue, brown, red, etc... but I have yet to try one.

I'd head to a Fry's but not if I can find an alternative closer to home.

I doubt it, but maybe Best Buy or a local computer shop? Plus they'd probably only have one or two of the different switches, each of the switches really do feel different.

^^ Like Steve said, the main thing you need to do is try out all the keys. I would think a Frys or Micro Center would have something available to try out or at least let you pop a box open and give it a few presses

Thanks for the responses. I would really need to play with the keys for a few minutes before I could make a decision. I bought my current keyboard without playing with it and I have disliked it since I hooked it up to my computer (Razer Lycosa).

Micro Center is also a good recommendation. Too bad it's just as far as a Fry's.

*EDIT*
What is your preference Nate? Are you using one when you type up reviews?

I'm still using the TT Meka G-Unit since I broke my Challenger keyboard. I've gotten used to it and my speed has come back from it. The only complaint I have is the placement of the \. Just seems weird for it to be down there, and when I go to work it's in the "normal" place...

Don't take too much advice on the keyboard though, you really do have to try them out. It's what held me back from getting one for so long...

I'm on my 4th mechanical keyboard in the past 2 years and I'm using the Rosewill RK-9100 that I reviewed a bit ago - http://www.legitreviews.com/rosewill-rk ... eview_2078

They are priced around $90 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6823201054

I've used several from Corsair and Thermaltake and that one is the right size for me. I don't need all the macro keys and all that, but do like the backlighting. Actually, I've been using this keyboard for 11 months after looking into it. I've had no issues and pretty much no signs of wear. I had a Tt eSPORTS MEKA Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (KB-MEK007US) and wore off the key tops in under a month. I had a Corsair K90, but it was took up too much of my desk.

So Ripster, the king-mod of r/MechanicalKeyboards, called me out on calling the K95 "expensive." I guess that makes me a plebeian writing for the commonfolk.
