The Intel Pentium name has been around for quite a long time, it’s a name that used to be synonymous with the latest and greatest processor. These days though, the latest and greatest Intel processors are part of the Intel Core series. Today the Pentium processors are more on the lower end of the product stack, and cost relatively little by comparison. When it comes to the lower end Intel processors, I’ve had a question in my mind for some time now, and finally decided to satisfy my curiosity. How well will a low end processor run a gaming system these days? To answer this question I picked up the Intel Pentium G3220 for under $70.

I really like these kinds of reviews. Seeing the same old items being reviewed gets boring as all get-out. I don't know know what to think at the conclusion...

A) Kudos to the Pentium for keeping up with games at higher resolutions. This confirms what I've been telling people for a few years now. At a certain point the CPU is not going to be the deciding factor.

or

B) Boo to the games industry. It's kind of aggravating that more game engines are not taking advantage of more cores. I would assume that even once a game gets beyond being CPU bound that a higher core count processor would still be useful. Take advantage of all available cores please.

Keep up the good work and think outside the box on more reviews. The one where Shane cut open the AiO units is another review that comes to mind.

It was a pretty cool review when Shane cut open those coolers.

I was honestly surprised at how well the G3220 did when gaming. Like I said in the conclusion, this may make it into a lan box for myself in the near future. Last LAN I went to was just a group of us that gets together and plays some of the older games, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, L4D, occasionally Halo, the newest game we play is Chivalry.

Nice review! Now I know what to use, when a friend or relative wants me to put together a cheap, budget PC to surf the net and watch some youtube videos :supz:

a quick question, which one is better for budget build? A G3220 or an AMD 760K?

amd is better in multi threaded applications by about 15-20% but it uses around 85% more power. so I would say the g3220 do to the overall saving from wattage :)
