NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Founders Edition Video Card Review

Post by Apoptosis »

Last week we were impressed by how the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X video card performed when we put to the test, but not everyone can afford a $699 video card and we understand that. If you have an 2-5 year old video card you might be getting the itch to upgrade to something more modern that has the performance you want to have while supporting all the new features that NVIDIA has added over the past couple generations. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 uses the same GP104 'Pascal' GPU build on the 16nm FinFET process that is used on the GeForce GTX 1080, but costs a fair amount less. Read on to see how it performs!

10 Now lets see an article on how to re-enable that gpc block

Love the power usage but still surprised at even the high end cards coughing up a furball on 4K gaming at 60fps. Not that I have a 4k monitor but really thought they would be blasting through the 4k stuff since everytime you turn around they are talking 4k this, 4k that (try to stream 4k online HAH)

Now if I can tell the doctors they have to cut my bills down so I can buy one....... [-o<

Great review Nate now GOTO 10

Yeah, that would be amazing to re-enable for this price point. I highly doubt there is a way and if you figure it out the folks at NVIDIA might come and dig a hole for you in the desert.

Yeah, 4K used to be really tough on Maxwell and it still makes Pascal break a sweat. The good news is we are finally getting respectable 4K performance numbers from a single card. You used to have to run SLI to get a good gaming experience on a 4K 60Hz panel, but that is no longer the case. You can get a single GeForce GTX 1080 and have an enjoyable gaming experience. A stock GeForce GTX 1080 FE card can nearly hit 60 FPS in games like BF4 and Fallout 4. With a little overclocking you can break 60 FPS averages and the gameplay is pretty damn smooth. Two GeForce GTX 1070's in SLI would likely rock with the 8GB frame buffer the cards get to share. The old GeForce GTX 970 was just 4GB and had the much talked about 'memory issue', so it wasn't a great SLI card for 4K setups. The GeForce GTX 1070 is exactly opposite of that.

I'm digging the 1070, looks like it will fit my needs nicely. Now to see what the non-founders cards are like...

EK has waterblocks for the 1080 Founders card, hoping they will make one for non-founders cards. really nice if they make one for the 1070's as well.
