AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and Ryzen 3 1300X Processor Review

Post by Apoptosis »

AMD is continuing its quest to clay back market share from Intel today with the release of Ryzen 3 processors. AMD is only releasing two Ryzen 3 processors today, the Ryzen 3 1200 and the Ryzen 3 1300X. Both of these are quad-core processors that have just four threads. It would be nice if they had Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) technology like the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 processors, but these are low cost offerings that are competing with Intel Core i3 dual-core processors...

Best thing about Ryzen so far, for me, has been the motherboard prices. I keep looking to upgrade my i7-3770K and noticed a pretty big price difference in the MB rather than the CPU.

Do you know the reason why Nate? Anyone?

You mean between AM4 boards or between AMD and Intel?

AM4. Just seems you can get a whole lot of MB for a lower price compared to the releases for Intel chips. Maybe I am looking wrong but that is what I have noticed. More features or more advanced of the same features for the same or lower pricing to a comparable Intel chipset. Compared to Intel boards I think every board made is cheaper lol

We aren't talking hundreds of dollars LOL but with the cpu and motherboard being cheaper, you can get more/better components within your budget. Mine is $14.23 so I am still just looking #-o

hum, I think it's pretty fair.

I know Intel B250 motherboards are around $65-$70. Take the Gigabyte GA-B250M-DS3H for example at $70.

The lowest priced AMD AM4 board from Gigabyte is the GA-AB350M-HD3 at $80.

Both use the same Realtek ALC887 audio codec, Realtek GbE LAN chip, have six SATA III ports, one M.2 connector, both are dual-BIOS. The broad features look close to the same on many of the boards and in this one example the AMD board is more.

I think it really depends on features... I know when you get to the high-end boards like AMD X399 the big cost difference is 802.11ad versus 802.11ac and the wired NIC on many of the boards.
