Years ago picking out memory was fairly easy, as long as it was compatible with your motherboard you were good to go. Now there are many things to take into consideration, such as the heatsink, speed, timings, overclockability and design. The recent trend is to put RGB LEDs on everything possible, allowing the user to customize the color to their specific color scheme. ADATA XPG Spectrix D40 16GB RGB DDR4 Memory Review
Re: ADATA XPG Spectrix D40 16GB RGB DDR4 Memory Review
What happened to make memory so damn expensive? I remember saying $40 for 16gb was too much and waited for it to go on sale!

no one really knows... it's likely a combination of supply/demand, production issues or lack of production and then good old price fixing.

I was recently looking for basic value ddr3 8gb single stick and that set me back £40 used let alone £55 new. It's stupid pricing at the moment and fixed pricing on memory here in the uk has stuck since 2015 when memory prices sky rocketed. I got my current corsair vengeance pro 4x4gb 1600 kits for £110 and that was amazing price compared to now, whick is around £120 used.
