During a recent conversation with Mushkin, Inc. it was discovered that Mushkin is just a number of weeks away from launching thier own power supply series. Right now the only thing we could get Mushkin to talk about was their 650W model known as the model XP-650. Read on to see what Mushkin is coming out with.

Right now the only thing we could get Mushkin to talk about was their 650W model known as the model XP-650, which is the power supply pictured above. The XP-650 is labeled as a 650W power supply, but has a peak output of 700W. The power supply has a combined 12V rail of 44A, which is more than enough to support SLI and CrossFire platforms. The XP-650 has four separate 12V rails all of which can be combined to form a single power rail thanks to what Mushkin is calling RailFusion Technology. When RailFusion occurs the green LED light on the back of the power supply will turn on letting you and anyone else look at the back of your case that you are pulling some serious power.

Indeed. But why so many high wattage PSU's?! I think Mushkin is shooting themselves in the foot by only offering 550W models and up. Those huge PSU's are going to expensive and overkill. Instead of a 1KW, I would have rather seen a solid 480W; much more practical if you ask me...

Seeing how the latest CrossFire and SLI GPU's need a stable power supply with healthy rails I believe it was Mushkin's goal to go for quality and performance on this power supply series. These power supplies will not be cheap, but then again the wont have BSOD's when running 3Dmark06 either. I think that Mushkin is headed in the right direction with these PSU's. Charge more and offer more. Corsair did the same thing with high performance memory and years later got in to the ValueSelect and now it's a huge line based off their reputation.

I agree, but I just question the practicality of a 1,000 watt (or even 800 W) PSU; even in a multi-GPU system. I'm not doubting that the Mushkin PSU's will be of top quality, I just think that their product range is narrowed down too much on the extreme high end, there is nothing really available for "the rest of us"...

In these days of dualcore CPU's and power hungry video cards, I wouldn't buy anything less than a 550 watt PSU............

As it stands now, I have bought less than a 500 watt one in a few years.

Think Quad-SLI... Remember my CES coverage of the Dell XPS Renegade? Lot's of Watts needed and now Quad-SLI is on the market.

By offering 550 and up, it's pretty easy to see that they are targeting the true enthusiast market and not the typical end-user.
Maybe down the line they will offer something for the everyday user.

I'm in Denver and visit Mushkin Headquarters occasionally to pick up a memory order. About 1 1/2 months ago when I was there awaiting an order to be packed, I noticed a mockup of this PSU on a techie's desk. The mockup didn't look like the photos on Legit Reviews. The PSU had a beautiful mirrored glass look to it and when I picked it up, it was VERY heavy. I asked the Mushkin tech if that's what the final versions would look like, and he said yes. I did notice the modular cable plugs, and the label on the PSU stating that it was 650W with dual 22 12V rails.

I can't wait to try one out after they're released.

Well I can tell you that the one that is shipping first... The XP-650 will look like the one pictured above... Let's just say I am fairly certain that my eyes aren't playing tricks on me. ;)

Next time you need to bring a camera with you and sneak some photos out for us! Welcome to the foumrs.

Looking at their PR photo and then at OCZ's PR photo I would guess your statement is correct in more ways than one.

looks like its a Top Power model the same as OCZ is using, this is a good thing it means we get another good brandname PSU with decent specs.
