Overclocking the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Processor

The Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 costs just $193 and is rumored to have decent overclocking potential. Today we put that rumor to the test and overclock this entry level Allendale processor and see how it does. After some minor tweaks our system overclocked the E6300 like no other reaching an 800+MHz overclock with little fuss. Read on to see how the E6300 does.

While the system would benchmark at 45% and 46% overclocks it wasn't Prime 95 or double 32M Super Pi stable, so the highest stable overclock was 44%. Our processor that started out life as a 1.86GHz bottom end Allendale is now a 2.69GHz monster thanks to a huge overclock! This overclock is an 822MHz increase on the overall frequency and overclocks close to 1GHz don't happen this easy too often! Let's take a look at what this means for system performance.

good price to performance ratio yes. Just wait till the e4300 comes out at $150 with 9x multi and 800fsb.

What a sh11ty chip.

Here's what happens when it's not. 3150 @ default Vcore...

...and I'm not alone. XS and [H] are full of folk pullin the same #'s.

wth are you talking about..... its a e6300 with a 7x multi, this is ocing not every chip is the same in that reguard. You cant sit there and say that chip sucks when alot of it depends on your motherboard. You also got a higher oc then what is in the article.

The article was aimed at the mainstream consumers to give realistic results... wasn't going for anything crazy and I bet the board you're using isn't an Intel D975XBX.

The Conroe Overclock Database

Out of 25 samples, over 20 had greater OC's than the one in review. All those listed have been dual primed for 4+ hours. It's no joke, this chips fly.

The board used in review comes in at $250. The review used both a volt mod and raised Vcore. That's hardly mainstream.

And yes, the board I used was less capable...the meager $150 Gigabyte DS3. To achieve my OC, I used cheaper ram, no mods, and less Vcore. If anything, it's a better example than the review of what the average user can expect.

do you guys know the highest the Intel Bad Axe motherboard can overclock is 50%... you can't do 490FSB on the board that was used in the review. I'll see if I can get another board in and do some more overclocking on one of the 965 chipsets.

Apop I'm with them. Mainstream would have used an Asus p5b or a gigabyte Ds3. That mobo is too expensive for me, and I'm mainstream

use clockgen for 975x for badaxe

Booted into windows at 9x400fsb use clockgen to up fsb to 433fsb

On the Intel D975XBX 'Bad Axe' motherboard I found the processor could go up to 2.69GHz before our test system topped out.

I'm happy to let everyone know that THE SAME PROCESSOR can do over 3GHz on the Gigabyte GA-965G-DS3 motherboard that we are now using. Below is a screen shot of the processor st 3080MHz.

ah, thats the thing with the bad axe's, good boards, but require vmods for better overclocks, a max FSB of 384 is pretty weak for a top 975 board though.

Impressive with the gigabyte Board.
