This one is a little off-beat, but Ken had a fun time with this at work...

Looks like a nice bit of kit if you do presentations like that. Don't you know Ken, you're supposed to let the students sleep as long as they don't snore :P

Great review.

Great review.
Ha! okay, you got me there. Well, with this little baby, I've got stuff flying and dissolving in all over the place in my PowerPoint presentations. Seriously, I give two lectures a week and this thing is worth it's weight in gold. I actually tried some others, but this little guy has all the right stuff. (Can you tell I'm happy with it?) :)

one thing comfort me is that this thing is CARDr readable, means when you travel on business you can have less stuff in your package, a presenter , SD card and cell phone.
What i used to have from Sourcingmap.COM, don't have the card read function, ](*,)

While this has been resurrected, I will take the opportunity to ask: The built in card reader, does that work wireless, or does it have to be cabled to work?

The SD card reader is accessible via a USB-mini cable that is provided. It's not wireless, but it does make for an easy way of hauling your documents around.

The Targus looks like a great upgrade to the Olympus WS-100 I'm currently using now.

The WMA format seems to be the best for clarity no matter what personal digital recorder I've tested so far.

The 32-bit rate on the Targus must bring the clarity to a near perfect mono recording.

These devices are excellent for picking up sounds across a room or in the shirt pocket recoding your own heart beat. I know, I've done that once forgetting to turn the unit off.

I just registered to leave my (bad) experience with this product.

What I want to point out here is that if you are expecting to get a voice recorder, forget it. Everything you record has a lot of noise generated by the recorder, not ambient noise. The presenter is "OK" but I bought it since it seemed to be cool to have a voice recorder to review presentations. The idea is still cool, but this implementation is bad quality. I contacted the seller about this, and he said that this is what I should expect for a 20 bucks presenter with voice recorder. I had cheaper MP3 players with MUCH better recording quality. And I am talking from MP3 players 5 years ago.

I understand his point but don't share the philosophy behind. It shouldn't be advertised as a voice recorder. A weird SD card reader? presenter? laser pointer? That's fine, but no way as a voice recorder.

For the reviewer: I think it would have been a good idea to post a file recorded with this device, since I read this review before buying it and I am very disappointed (with both).

First off, welcome to the LR Forums! Sorry you didn't like the review (or the product)..

Well, this is a bit of old tech. Actually, the 'voice recorder' feature is not really that bad. I actually have a bunch of presenters and remote mice pointers and this is still my favorite. I find the recorder actually pretty good with tons of space to record long sessions. You can even send the output file to Dragon Naturally Speaking and get a very good transcript of your recording.

I've let a number of colleagues use this pointer and no one has complained, in fact there have been a couple of purchases from folks who have first borrowed it from me.

Like most things, your mileage may vary, but to me it sounds like you got a bad unit to be honest. Now if you are trying to record a U2 concert to sell a CD, it might not be the best thing in the world, of if you are really looking for high quality recordings, this might not be what you are looking for. But for dictation or to record (in mono) a lecture/presentation I would still recommend this device. I have a Sony ICD-SX750 that I use 2-3 times a week for CD quality recordings. It's very nifty, but costly. When I really care about getting the highest fidelity, I use the Sony. When I just want to capture a lecture (and I'm already using the pointer anyway) I give the Targus a go and haven't had any problems.

You say you got it for $20?? That actually seems like a very good deal and makes me give it an even higher recommendation.
