Rotate your first and last pictures 90 degrees right and they'll look much better. :)

Looks like you were doing pretty good with the manual focus. 8)

Thanks mate!
I actually let the images the way they were when I took the picture, that fish on the third one was actually in that position.
So were the Jelly fish..but not sure if that is what you meant.

Figured you'd left them how you took them, but you should know now that taking the picture is only half the job. :P
(the second half being how you 'develop' the photo afterwards, shooting jpeg is fine for now though :P )

Flip the first one round and see how much better it looks when it's like the jelly fish are sweeping across the photo.

Sorry I meant I left then on the position the creature had at the time I took the image..did not want to alter the way they were "standing" :-)
I only shoot RAW then develop with Photoshop but of course jpgs are then use for posting.
I do need to play with some of the images to create...artistic views of the photo but that would be this weekend. :-)
Thanks again amigo. :drinkers:

I did half wonder if you were already tweaking in RAW, because I thought the colours looked good to have been just shot in jpeg :P

Now we're on the same page as each other

I think you just being modest when you said you were a wannabe, you're definately using 'proper photographer' techniques.

LOL Thanks.
I like to read a lot and try to learn as much as I can but I am quite new to all this.
This is one of those things that the more you learn the more you realized how much more you need to learn...it never ends! lol
Heck I am learning about Freshwater fish keeping too and that is quite interesting and involved as well.

I'm starting to be more and more intrigued by photography, that I'm planning on buying my first DSLR. I was in the debates between a Canon T1i and a Nikon D5000, but after reading further, there are a few features that both lack, that the Nikon D90 has. So, with that said, I've been keeping my eyes open for other camera ideas, but I'm pretty set on the D90. Amazon has the body only for $826 shipped, or the kit, which includes a 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for $1099. That lens doesn't sound like a bad starter lens. I'm kind of on a budget since I've got a wedding to pay for, so I don't want to drop much more than a grand on a camera.

What do you guys think? Body only and a separate lens, or the kit to get me started?

I'm pretty new at the whole "Pro Photography" thing, but a friend did borrow me a book on the basics. I understood a few things from the get-go, and more after starting to read this book.

Any tips are appreciated. I know LR isn't really the best place to post this stuff, but I figured what the heck. I'm seeing some good replies in this ancient thread. I know there are a number of actual photography websites...

*I realize that the 50D is a little better and newer technology, but I don't know if I can fathom spending another $225-250 on top of the D90 right now. The D90 is already another $100-200ish on top of the aforementioned cameras.

Buy a refurbed body from Adorama. Refurbed are cheaper and have the benefit of full quality testing from the OEM. New cameras coming off the line do not always get full quality checks (they can't check them all!). My 50D is a refurb from there and it perfect. Adorama and B&H Photo I think are the only two reputable places I know that deal refurbed from the OEM.

May have to keep tabs on this thread!!! I well enough into old fartondom that I miss my days in the dark room doing B & W and some color slide stuff. Haven't gotten into digital that much even though I've been fooling around with a Fujifilm S5000 for a few years.

Would love to have my Bronica S2A setup back even if it was mostly manual along with my Fujica ST701 and Pentex MX.
