We purchased an new home in december 2010. I had visions of doing some remodeling of the home theater area and building a bar in the back of the room. Being the first place I have owned I have never attempted anything like this. Found a deal on laminate flooring at Home Depot at $0.59 sq/ft. So we picked some up and figured now is as good as anytime to figure it out. We started out by ripping out the old carpet and laying the new floor.

I did all this by just watching about 3 hours of YouTube flooring videos.

Next step was to start on the bar. I looked online at all kinds of ideas, but I couldn't really find what I was looking for as far as plans so I just decided to start framing it out and moved stuff around to see what worked.

Early stages -



Early on I figured a L shaped would work best for this small space. So I continued to add to it little by little.



Reused some old deck wood for the foot rest.


Added the rail and cut out for the tapper.



Added the front facing, put the fridge in behind the bar and started on laying out the bar top.. I also ran an electrical outlet to behind the bar but forgot to get a picture.




Next step will be the epoxy coating on the bar top. I am kinda nervous to do that.. I hope to have that done next weekend.

What backing did you use for the flooring since it's on concrete... I'm sure there had to be some moisture barrier there.

I think that bar top will come out really nice. What types of wood are in there?

oh and get on ebay and buy yourself a proper tap handle!

Where is the cigar humidor? ;)

Looks nice, except the bar top. I personally do not like it but that is what makes everyone unique. Not everybody has to like what everybody else does.

Forget the humidor......

It needs a Guinness tap or it's not a real bar

The world would be a much less interesting place if everyone did like the same thing.

It does have a does have a moisture barrier for the underlay I don't remember the brand off hand.

My buddy worked at a place that used the wood in the bar top to crate generators for shipping- so I just stained it with a few different colors of stain I had sitting around. I think its pine. the bottle caps on the bar top have since been raised to the level of the other wood. I think it will look good once I get the epoxy top poured. Its a long process so I need to find a good 12-16hrs to do it.

I definitively will be getting a new tapper once I finish the rest.

I originally was split between using the wood I had or a copper bar top - I think the copper would have looked really nice but adding another $500-$1000 to the cost was something that helped me decide on the wood. That allowed my budget to get a 37" LED for the wall behind the bar.. My wife really likes the wood so its a win win I guess.

Hung the TV this weekend.. as well as cut all the trim pieces and filled some cracks so when I pour the top it doesnt leak all over.

Well I think it is looking very good and the work top is one of those that you grow to like after a while. I also like the bottle caps that are set in there as well.

Finally got the epoxy poured Sunday - started at 9am went to bed at 1:30AM - took awhile but it looks pretty good. pictures to follow.

next will be to work on the interior and get the led lights put in.

Looks great. I like to color of the walls. Looks like the same color we've got here at our place. It was kind of hard to envision looking at it on the paint chip and in the can, but once it was on the walls we loved it. We used white moldings to accent it.

Final pictures... For a first time bar builder I am pretty happy with how it turned out. I cant wait for NFL season to start and to get the tapper flowing..



Painting we picked up from street vendor when we were down in New Orleans for St. Patricks day. Whoa Burbon street was fun!
