Facebook - Pay to Promote Posts
I noticed this week that Facebook has activated the 'promote' feature on our sites Facebook fan page. I have heard about this feature for weeks and thought it was crap because your posts used to go out to everyone and only in the past year did that change. Now to get everyone to see your posts you have to pay for what used to be free. I thought it would be a buck or two per post, but when I looked at pricing today I was in for a shock.
Our Facebook page has 5,000 fans and to reach half of them Facebook wants $5 and to reach all of them they want $10 per post. This is for a post that has a link to our review. This breaks down to about $2 CPM in terms of advertising and is much higher than I expected. If I was to promote all of our reviews and contests each month it would cost ~$240 per month or $2880 per year.
I believe that images and videos are more costly.
I looked around online and found out that the rate jumps up with how many fans you have. For example the Austin TV station KVUE has 30,000 fans and for them to promote a post they can only go up to 11,000 followers and it costs them $100. That is a CPM rate of like $18 and insane.
Right now it looks like only 10% of your followers will see your Facebook activity if you don't pay to promote it.

Thought people who were already "fans" will see the post no matter what, but if they comment or like then all of their friends will see the full post as a "sponsored" post when you promote it.

nope, hasn't been like that for a long time.
Re: Facebook - Pay to Promote Posts
I'm 'bout ready to dump FB and this just piles on the reasons why. I'm sick of friend recommendations, game requests, fortunes, have to allow differnt apps access to see videos/pictures/news stories. No wonder why their stock is in the crapper.

yeah, well it's still heading south... How it was valued at 100x last years earnings is beyond me. Yahoo finance shows it's 52 week range was $45 as the high... That is crazy
It hit $27.50 today, which I am sure hurts those that bought on the IPO. I didn't invest in FB and have no plans to unless it drops down into the teens.
I guess they figure people (businesses) will cough up the money and pay to promote posts all the time. I don't see that happening.

You sure you get 100% of the posts on the others you are just normal fans of.

NRA, TT, Gigabyte, AM, Axial, Brownells, titan, Rodney Carrington...
see em all, now if they double post back to back in the same hour I only see one. Like for LR I seen the article, but not the announcement of the winner.
Here is 3 back to back

Re: Facebook - Pay to Promote Posts
right, but what I am saying is if you go to their pages, you aren't missing any posts at all?
Facebook doesn't feed you all the posts now as they are charging the pages for that and that is the main part of their revenue plans.

I did not invest in FB's IPO or would I even consider investing in that company. DragonFury has it right!
