the only things I don't like is that
Visually: better than any racing game in existence, showed a friend and he said it looked better than real life lol
Performance: lags my computer ocassionally (in kenya because of the sunset shading and aspen because of all the snow flying up) because I run a C2D (using 8xMSAA and Ultra settings at 1920x1080)
gameplay: too early to say overall, like the focus on Euro-rally feel
menus: was a major flaw in DiRT 2, significantly better in 3, visually appealing but lags my computer more than races do, but doesnt have anything like the stupid camper you got in 2, just regular video game menus with a car in the background usually, similar to GRiD and the original DiRT
load time: slower than DiRT2 it seems to load maps, but still significantly better than console versions of DiRT2 anyway
DLC: continually being released, which is good, but I wish it was free DLC like all PC games used to have. wish it wasnt a requirement to really feel like you beat the game. DLC has no place in any career mode in any game
music: instead of popular modern rock, they opted for (as far as i've heard so far anyway) vocal-less beats, some of which have strong Electronic influences
Difficulty: on the easiest setting with all of the driving assists off, it is almost impossible to win a race if you mess up even a single turn, so instant replay's are a near-requirement to win. driving assists (throttle control, corner-braking control, racing line, ABS, damage-either full effect damage, visual-only, or none) make the game super-easy-mode
Realism: overall great, but it seems extraordinarily easy to oversteer/over-counter-steer, some Rally spectators stand in the road and run and jump over barriers when you go by which is really cool
Maps: some back from previous Codemasters titles with graphics overhauls(like added bodies of water), but a LOT of variety in driving conditions and locations, and there are a lot more roads that have cliffs on one or both sides
issues: 16xCSAA DOES NOT WORK, will not crash the game, but makes all menus a (mostly) black screen, and its not a hardware or driver issue because I'm running 275.27 and I use 32x CSAA just fine in BF:BC2
fix: go to your documents folder/My Games/DiRT 3/hardwaresettings/hardware_settings_config.XML
and set:
Code: Select all
multisampling="8xmsaa"
^ took me about an hour to start playing the game after if was installed because of this, so here is the 30second fix for the rest of you
