saved games

Post by Merlin »

IF I delete a game from HDD drive A and instruct it to keep the saved games and I then re-install the game onto another drive. Will the game be able to locate the saved ganmes on the first drive?

Kinda, sorta, maybe. Some games save the game in the install directory, if that is the case it will look for the files inside the install directory. Other games save it elsewhere like the documents directory, if that's the case it should look for it there regardless of what drive it's installed on. What game are you talking about?

If it doesn't see them, look for files left over from the first installation, and move them to appropriate new location. Should work in most cases.

Steam saves game data in one place and save games in your documents folder, most save to your docs folder these days though some save to an app data. really does depend on the game/engine/DRM

Thanks for the help. I will just have to try each game and see how it works out.

I went through the same sort of thing.

What I did was locate the save files and transferred them to a memory stick (in a foldrer named after the game the file was taken from).

Installed the games where I desired them to be. went into the game and played long enough for a save to be created and then replaced that with the sdave I took from the original install.

Long winded I know but better than leaving things to chance.
