Super Talent Upgrades UltraDrive Series SSDs

New Firmware Supports TRIM and Performance Restoration Tool
San Jose, California - May 15, 2009 - Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, announced it is now shipping its award winning UltraDrive SSDs with Firmware version 1370 which enables improved performance when used with Microsoft Windows 7. Super Talent has made a firmware upgrade tool available at www.supertalent.com to allow existing owners to improve the performance of their UltraDrive SSDs.

SuperTalent has also developed an "UltraDrive Performance Refresh Tool" which users can run to refresh their performance, should they experience performance degradation associated with all SSDs when files become fragmented and data becomes stale.

With the new firmware Super Talent has increased the maximum sequential read speed of both the UltraDrive ME and UltraDrive LE to 260GB/sec max and the sequential write performance of the UltraDrive ME to 200GB/sec max and the UltraDrive LE to 210GB/sec max, delivering the world's fastest SATA 3Gb/s SSDs in a small 2.5" form factor.

About time another company got TRIM out there. Word is that TRIM is built into the latest Win 7 beta release and merely needs the SSD controller to be updated to be able to support it.

This makes Super Talent the very first company to support TRIM on Windows 7 right?

I have been playing around with the UltraDrive ME 64GB SSD (FTM64GX25H) with this new firmware version 1370 on Windows Vista 64-bit and gave their wiper utility a try since they don't say anything about it not working on 64-bit OS's.

After a day of use:

After Running UltraDrive Performance Refresh Tool (Wiper.exe):
after_trim.jpg
after_trim.jpg (73.32 KiB) Viewed 5472 times
Don't think it works too well, as I'm not seeing this: "SuperTalent has also developed an “UltraDrive Performance Refresh Tool” which users can run to refresh their performance, should they experience performance degradation associated with all SSDs when files become fragmented and data becomes stale."

Hmmm...seems the firmware 1370 is the same # as the OCZ Vertex firmware - must be the same controller & firmware.

Yup the UltraDrive ME and Vertex are identical... same barefoot controller, Elpida 64MB cache chip and same exact firmware revisions.

They actually didn't:
With the new firmware Super Talent has increased the maximum sequential read speed of both the UltraDrive ME and UltraDrive LE to 260GB/sec max and the sequential write performance of the UltraDrive ME to 200GB/sec max and the UltraDrive LE to 210GB/sec max, delivering the world's fastest SATA 3Gb/s SSDs in a small 2.5" form factor.
The UltraDrive ME is an MLC SSD with a read of up to 260MB/s and a write of up to 200MB/s
The UltraDrive LE is an SLC SSD with a read of up to 260MB/s and a write of up to 210MB/s

Not a big difference between SLC and MLC drives these days, but for servers and enterprise use SLC is the way to go.

You'd just press the power button and Windows would pop up before the monitor can even display anything :)
