China seeks its own high-tech standards

Post by Apoptosis »

This is a very interesting read about our technologies and what other countries are using!
DVD? China's trying to do it one better -- with a technology called EVD.

CDMA? The digital cell phone standard is so 2003, the Chinese say. Give TD-SCDMA a try instead.

Intel Corp.'s Centrino and Microsoft Corp.'s Windows? If you're doing business with Beijing, better bone up on WAPI and Red Flag Linux, too.

These days, China's dominant message is this: We'll embrace the world -- but on our terms.

I understand that China is tired of paying foreign patent fees for products made and sold domestically, but to develop whole new standards will isolate them in the long run. Unless of course the technology is better ;)

At the end of the day everything gets made in China so they're the ones who dictate what we use in the next few years.

china is fast becoming the world leader in technology, but their tactics are ANTI comptetition and can be tried the same as Microsoft with their Antitrust cases....

The only way for software and hardware to progress is if people develop 1 platform together and keep updating that one.... not having millions of different versions...

Completely the opposite. With only 1 platform and only 1 software running on it there will never be any progress.

Competition is the only thing that will drive development.

Im saying 1 platform for technologies on the same structure, for example 1 dominant Wi-Fi standard, 1 dominant networking standard, 1 dominnat DVD standard.. etc...

That would mean for people to compete they would have to make that standard in their hardware/software better, hence it advances much faster.
