vbironchef wrote:First I would like to thank you for your help spitter. Yes my OS is win 64. I seem to be on a SMP client that is 32 bit. I guess that is how it is. Yes, I do have a passkey. So far I have completed 4 SMP units. All have been version 1.74.

Thanks for folding!!! Geo is right it's all in the guide

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=4464

But here is the quick and dirt guide:
Download and install vmplayer http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/p ... piZGVkZA==
Download and extract Linux image http://folding.braindancer.net/linuxrou ... FAH-1.1.7z

In the extracted file click on the exe file named Linux64_FAH it will start the vmplayer and folding,
To change the name, team number and put in your pass key ,open you web browser and put in the 192.168.1.x number that is on the vmplayer screen. check the bigadv box along with the auto start and set the number of cores you want to fold, check the reboot on submit and submit. Your folding bigadv

Everything is set up for your machine.

You should be able to get 3.6 out of it.

stable at 4ghz and that is with memory and all overclocked. For some reason when i try and underclock the memory it gets unstable - weird! Might be the Intel motherboard.

Oh and I am running that ALC Domino on it (the 4th one now, since they keep crapping out)

Holly crap...my ram finally came in today. I put the heatsink on the board last night to see if it would fit in the case....yikes...that sucker is big, but no issues. This will be the first time in probably 15 years that I have built a higher end computer and put in a PCI video card. I guess I can let the overclocking begin tonight.

System is up and running at stock settings....Prime95 has been running for 10 minutes. system temp 32C, CPU 39C and something called IOH is 51C...any of this sound normal or not? This is my first i7 system. Oh it's a 920 DO stepping.

Not Good

http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/s ... p?t=310369
I7 920 stock Fan too noisy, ordered a Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 cooler. Dead quiet, I checked temperatures using the MSI Overclocking Centre software, my MSI x58 Platinum board registered:

CPU - 28C
IOH - 40C
System - 70C

Loaded CPU by Folding@Home, system temp started to rise near 80C! MSI OC software system shutdown threshold at 70C with a maximum at 80C. Reconfigured 120mm fans, and messed with speeds. No change.

Newegg boards show 4-5 users with high IOH/system temps pointing to poor/broken mount of northbridge/IOH heatpipe.

RMA'ed board....I've got my fingers crossed for the replacement.

Other experiences?

Running prime 95 again. Gave the IOH more voltage (like i read everywere you are supposed to do). Vcore up slightly (monitor says 1.14 volts?) bclock at 180 3600 mhz temps are IOH 60C, system 29C, CPU 45C.
I wish I had more to do with these i7s cause I have no idea what I am doing :?

edit: Uped Bclock to 191 3820 Mhz, bumped the vcore a little more 1.185, running prime 95 again IOH 60C, system 29C, CPU 50C...see how this goes. In case you are wondering, I'm trying to find some sort of limit.....and I'm failing.

edit: it topped out at 4.82 ghz ran prime 95 all night temps IOH 61C, system 31C, CPU 71C.

Was just kidding about the 4.8 ghz...wanted to see if anyone was around. i7 running at 3.82 is folding a 25,000 point unit and if if does not crash should be done Monday AM at 5ish.....fingers crossed. Temps are IOH 54C system 29C, CPU 45-45C. If it gets done this ok I will try 4.0 ghz.

Not sure if I know what kind of heatsink you are using? If you made a post I must have missed it. Untill you post your heatsink, I think that it's great that you have a cold basement to work out of.

Noctua U12P se2. [email protected] volts, [email protected] volts, QPI untouched because mother board adjusts it down so uncore is not overclocked. Please forgive the rather messy cabling...was in a hurry. I guess the specs would be good to. MSI X58M (cheap), i7 920 D0 stepping, G. Skill DDR3 1600 ram, Antec Eartwatts 750 Watt PSU, 8600 GT Vid card (I think?), 4 120 mm fans , 1 140 mm fan, 1 Socket 370 fan on the IOH cooler,

The biggest problem with folding bigadv is not the folding, if your temps are under control, the problem is when you restart it after you shut it down or have a crash. I suggest folding it for an hour and then shut it down, hit reset on the pc or shut it down normally and see if you start back up at the right restore point, if it restarts back at the beginning your overclock is probably bad.

You're just full off good news aren't you...j/k. I'm not a fan of the reset button....so just click restart, would that test it out? Oh, how are the checkpoints set? Every frame, or is it it different? If it is a frame, I'll waite till the next one is complete.

Should be about every 15 mins, just like a normal work unit. Anyway you want to do it, I have lost way to many work units folding on a bad restore point.

Am I wrong that you have to complete 10 WU with A2 or A3 core before you can get a bigadv WU.. I have 9 so far. Or did I download the wrong program?
