prob with VMWare

Post by skier »

well i have my Athlon quad fully stable at last, and want to run VMWare with SMP 4 on, but its never using more than 80% on any given core, the log file says smp4 is on:

Code: Select all

Arguments: -local -forceasm -smp 4
but its still not using 100% of any core, usually around 50-60% /core

I have been trying to install smp client for my intel 980x and can't seem to get it working right. I have trying all day! Not sure how to configure it with more cores. When I set it to 4 cores, it runs on one core only. I think it's best to wait till monday when Stanford is back. It is a holiday after all. I would like some help as well. Fold on :supz: Need to know what settings to use to configure with a 6 core cpu. Heck, I can't use core temp. it's all buggy on my rig. I downloaded the latest drivers and bios. Yea, I'm confussed. I tried to overclock and it won't work either. When I first installed vmware and started a client it downloaded a new core. Maybe that has something to do with it.

What build are you guys using? You should use Linuxrouter's build. It's the easiest and most efficent way to run VMware folding.

If you're running SMP2, no need for VMware. You should only use VMware folding if you're running -bigadv folding. This is what vibronchef should do if you want to get the most PPD out of youre Core i7.

I've found Vmware is best for SMP folding (non -bigadv). The windows SMP client is too unstable for me.
I've also found using other Vmware "Builds" is also pointless.
Just install something like Ubuntu server in vmware and then setup the folding client in a folder called "Folding"
It couldnt be easier
