got 1 bigadv now back to regular units?

Post by KnightRid »

I folded with the i7 with the new smp2 and finally got a bigadv unit - you can tell by my points and the time it took to do. Now I am back to getting regular units again? Is this normal? I have not changed any settings in the folding program.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Yes it normal not to have back to back big-adv. It does take a long time to complete a WU. I really don't think it's worth it myself. Regular SMP WU's give good points on a 24 hour avg.. The reason I don't think it is worth it is because alot can happen in the time frame it takes to complete a WU. I have had many big-adv WU's mess up or the power goes out, well you get picture. Like I said before in a earlier post, big-adv are supposed to be used with 8 real core rigs.

I know the virtual cores are not supposed to count but they still give a hell of a bump in points.

You can easily tell when my bigadv was finished and it probably started on the 19th - so 3 days of folding the bigadv netted me more points than just folding the regular smp ones.

I was just curious if this was normal. I know on the VM with Linux I was running on the old bigadv program I would get them 1 after another once the initial 8 or 10 normal ones were done.

Normal for right now, alot of people are folding bigadv so there is a shortage of wus.
