Yay...my 2600k and the last 2 560s arrived today. Now I get to see how I did on the 2600k overclocking lottery.....

From what I have read 4.8 is getting lucky and 4.4 - 4.5 is more the norm. 4.9+ is like 105 and 5.0+ is 2%...so I'm not getting my hopes up.

4.4 50%
4.8 40%
4.9 10%
5.0+ 2%

I tried to find the link that shows the results of 100 chips being tested. I can't remember where I saw it.

Well...made it to 4.6 ghz. Ran prime95 for about 20 minutes, all was well. went for 4.7 ghz....15 minutes later I got back into the bios and actually got it to load windows. Yikes....figured I had killed a sandybridge in 1/2 hour.....would have been a new record...lol

Not Laughing. I have a couple of ASRock boards here and they have been good boards

Was hoping it was one that I had reviewed, and might be able to give you a tip or two. Does that board have the Internal Voltage Overide option. Helps a great deal with overclocking on that chipset

Yup...voltages galore.... :( CPU @ 1.35 4.6 ghz at the moment, ram @ 1.5, spread spectrum off...thats about all I changed. Chip is at 64-65c running folding@home. There are some screen shots of the bios in this review http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardw ... Pro/3.html

The 2600k is folding away @ 4.6 ghz. It is working on wu 2686 and getting 33-34,000 PPD. Don't know if that is good or other for that wu. Temps are around 64c.

I think I was hitting 4.8g @ 1.38 with my old board. It's not stable with those settings on the revised board though.

It's all done. That's it...that's all. Even managed to kick a breaker off...twice. Ignore the yellow bits...just remapped those so HFM has not caught up yet.

I have my 2500K@ 4.7Ghz and having about 18K-19K on extremeoverclocking (showing between 20K-23K in Fahmon). is that right to have that much more PPD with a 2600K or am I doing something wrong? my client is set for bigadvs. ](*,)

Image

my second question: Just added the GPU3 client. Is 14K-15K normal from a GTX470@ 784core, 1566 shader and 1388 memory? Is there anything like bigadvs in the SMP client or just the regular GPU3?

BTW, after adding the GPU3 client, the CPU PPD went down to about 15K from 20K-21K in fahmon. Is that normal? if not, what should I do?

Your not getting big-adv points yet. You need to complete at least 10 SMP WU's first. Make sure you have a passkey.

I completed 144 WU's in SMP folding and 3 in GPU3 folding. I do have a passkey. My questions remain:

1. Is 15K PPD for an OC'd 2500K (4.7Ghz) seems right or not? (The SMP is set for bigadvs, does my PPD reflect that or is my CPU just running simple SMP with bonus points?)
2. Is there anything like bigadvs in GPU3 folding as well or that's just for the SMP?
3. is there such a big difference in PPD between a 2600K (OC'd) and a 2500K (OC'd)?
4. when added GPU3 folding, my SMP PPD went down about 5K - is that normal?

1. It doesn't look like it. A big-adv. points take about 2 1/2 to 3 days to complete. Does the I5 2500K show 8 or 4 cores in the task manager? If it only shows 4 cores, then you can't run big-adv points on that chip.

2.No, their might be some bonus points, but I really don't follow it.

3. I don't think it would be a big difference. Maybe 5K between the two. Edit: It depends if you have 8 cores showing in the task manager then no. If not then no big-adv. points.

4. Yes

to contradict vbiron a bit, the i5 is a native quad without HT so it will only have 4 threads to work off, meaning it cannot come close to running big adv. so the difference between the two is more like a 30k difference in points per unit, granted the 2600 will take slightly longer to finish its units

Thanks for clearing up the confusion. I did ask before about the bigadvs and someone said that 2500K can do them but In guess he was wrong. So it looks like because I don't have hyper threading, can't do the bigadv points ](*,)

too bad because as much as I've read in reviews there is not much difference in performance between the 2600 and 2500 chips. I guess stanford is behind thinking that only 8 core chips can do those (2600K is also a 4 core, just fools the server showing 8 threads like it was 8 cores). So much for the big points. I'm trying to boost my PPD now with an OC'd gtx470. Just bought and installed an Accelero Xtreme plus on it and it is night and day now. before I couldn't even run folding on it because furmark raised the temp to 100C and the computer froze - at the same time the default cooler's fan was trying to imitate a jet taking off, spinning @ 100%.

Now the biggest temp. is 54C @ 30% fan speed and all is quiet :)

maybe I should OC the card more? :snakeman:

Exactly. As far as your graphic card goes, I have been having issues with the drivers on both my gtx570's. If your fan speed is only at 30% then I think you might be having the same issues. I know alot of people have been having the same problem with the drivers. Fan speed should be around 70% with temps in the 70's. If your card is doing a % in about 3 min. then you have a driver issue. I think it should only take about 1.5 min. per %. Accelero Xtreme plus looks good so I don't know if what I said above matters.
