Vista laptop at work taking 10 minutes to boot up

Post by DX »

I have a brand new Vista laptop that after installing CCAA (Cisco Clean Access Agent) the system takes at least 10 full minutes to boot and then about another 5-6 minutes once you type in the users name and password. I have the system all patched up minus service pack 1 as there is an incompatibility between it and CCAA. I have run a few tools (ccleaner and iobit disk defragger) to see if I can get it to go faster but I'm not having any luck.

Any suggestions other than rolling back to XP as that isn't an option.

I should note that this system has 2gb of ram in it.

There isn't anything that I can disable that is listed there. I also have UAC disabled.

My XP laptop takes a good 5-7mins to boot, and that is with Cisco VPN client and IBM client access. That was after I stripped out all the BS programs and thinned out the start-up items.

I haven't had much dealings with Vista on laptops, hell that could be normal, but then I have never seen a laptop boot quick that wasn't running Linux. What model of laptop is it?

Its a Gateway E-475M with a T7700 running at 2.4, ATI Radeon HD 2300 and 2gb of ram. So this should be a screaming laptop but CCAA just slows this thing WAY down on boot up. Once it is booted though it runs fine.

Even if CCAA slows everything down to a halt for start up, it is an AMAZING program. We had that installed my last year at college, and since we had to get college students connected to the network, we were always attacked by a thousand computers that each were blasting viruses all over the network. Once we got CCAA we had a TON of free time.

I don't remember it making my XP computer take a long time for start up.

It works fine with XP it is just Vista that seems to be making it choke.
