Can anybody tell me how to install the plugins for Pidgin? i thought that i would give linux a shot but i need Xfire! So ive got this plugin that allows xfire to be used, its called Gfire, but i have no clue how to install it.

Well according to this post you should be able to just download this deb package and install it relatively easily by double clicking on it...you should be able to find most stuff in Synaptic Package Manager but this is one thing that you won't.

I dont suppose you know if you can get steam and Company of heroes working too?

Ok i just tried that rightclicked and saved to desktop, when i try to run it, it throws up the error Wrong architecture i386

Steam I believe will work through Wine, IDK about CoH though...as for the plugin a bit futher down that thread is a link to the 64bit version (sorry didn't look before I linked) http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gfire/ ... -amd64.deb

this is the error i get when trying to install coh, it is listed as a supported program, and ive got the latest wine version]

Wine is a very finicky program, just because it's supported doesn't mean it'll work flawlessly. But yeah, make certain you have you card drivers and that they are the right ones (eg if you have an 8x00 series, don't use the legacy drivers). Good howto http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/nvidia

i figured that bit out, it seems to just not isntall, crysis installed fine it opens runs, but when it runs it works with video artifacts, not from over heating just errors in the game.

Yeah if you're a hardcore gamer, I'd suggest dual booting windows for games because Windows games just weren't designed to work in Linux. On the other hand, there are tons of emulators and games written specifically for Linux in the repos if you're just looking for a casual game or just want to shoot some dudes CS style 8)

i find wine to be fine for cs and maybe HL2 But not much else (except for ye olde games

ive found that wine works fine for css tf2 etc, then i tried the trial for Cedega and it did this to my ubuntu..
